Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Successful leadership values their direct reports advice

So many unqualified managers and supervisors it's mind numbing. Successful managers are SMEs of areas they control, not just appointed because they are good at something else. Great managers also listen to the workers in the field because they are the one's who see things in real time and have to make critical decisions or everything fails. If you want to know what is going on in the business and how to keep it steaming forward then listen to them. And for God's sake promote from within, stop hiring right out of college into management and supervisor roles when we have people who are so knowledgeable and capable right here in the company. Get rid of this current unfair promotion policies that limit how and where employees can progress within the company and go back to tried and true practices. Hire people into positions they are qualified for and not because they are a relative, good friend, lover, blackmailing you, supplying you with your fix, or you think they are easy on the eyes, and get rid of those who aren't qualified.

Absolutely disgusted

A lot of the bashing on this website is probably from the same two or three people, perhaps Greg Ke and Christine Sw?

I've recently been told about this site--some venting is good; others, fueling the fire with negativity, exaggeration and lies. Anonymous150948 -- If you are going to define me as an employee based on nepotism, it should at lease be close to a reality in your arguement. (1) Spell my name correctly--you don't know me well enough to complain about me, if you are unable to do that; (2) my Dad works for Chevron still, but my Mom hasn't worked for Chevron in over 13 years (and I never worked in a supervisory-direct report working relationship with my parents); (3) I graduated in 2007 with a Family (4) after a little while, I posted for an admin role which evolved (based on my capabilities) in to a HES suppprt role, which I was in until 2012 in Houston; (5) I went back to college for my second degree and graduated with a BS in Occupational Safety and Health in 2012--while still working full time and getting a 4.0 gpa at that; (6) I joined the Horizons program as a "new hire" in 2012 in the AMBU organization; (7) in previous posts you / others have said that I was a team lead--I was an entry level HES specialist for OH and HazCom, as well as HES field support; and (8) as part of the Horizons reassignment move, I was relocated back to Houston to work in Gas and Midstream, Supply & Trading, OE/HES as a HES Specialist to support office-based personnel. My Mom wasn't in the company for 5 years when I started, and my Dad has never been a manager or position of aithority--so, what strings could he pull? I've worked hard for my whole career to get where I am at. I've never had direct report employees, and still don't to this day. I'm learning each day and using the knowledge that I have to support HES in Chevron. Please understand and respect that. If you have issues with me, talk with me directly.

Nepotism nepotism........oh wait that goes on here.....Ashley Downy the kid of two 35 yr Chevron employees gets a job as a secretary after she finishes her intensive interior design program. Then the next year she magically become the Occupational Health Advisor......fails miserably her position is eliminated and she goes to trading natural gas futures......got to love Chevron.......

Hey, wait a minute... I beg your pardon, but don't insult the "Ma and Pa Greasy Spoon" by comparing it to Chevron. I dare say many greasy spoons I've had a meal or two at are much better run businesses than the one called Chevron. Lol

Halliburton, Exxon, Shell and even Walmart ask applicants to list any relatives, working for the company on the application. Chevron has nepotism in every business unit. The inbreeding has led to blatantly biased rankings, promotions and layoffs. It's a corporation run like a ma and pa greasy spoon.

I have a 20+ people team, I really respect only a couple of them. Sorry to say, but that's the fact. I inherited the team though, but it's very difficult to follow anyone's advice if it makes no sense whatsoever.
