When the Nigerian villagers sued CVX my boss came into my office to tell me that CVX is under a "gag rule", and must not talk about the KS Endeavor accident which created a huge crater in the ocean floor and resulted in thousands of gallons of diesel fuel and other chemicals being released into the ocean. In fact, my boss said quote, "I don't know what they are suing us for." Just goes to show the kind of regard that NMA has for people and the environment.

(January 13, 2014, 8:11 PM ET) -- Nigerian coastal residents struck Chevron Corp. with a $5 billion suit in California federal court on Monday over a deadly 2012 offshore natural gas rig explosion that allegedly poisoned their air and water.

The suit says Chevron’s negligence is to blame for an explosion that destroyed the K.S. Endeavour rig, a drilling platform six miles off the coast of southern Nigeria owned in part by its subsidiary Chevron Nigeria Ltd. Two contract rig workers were killed and the resulting offshore fire burned for 46 days, according to company accounts.
