Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Culture change...

When talking about the need to change the culture, I think most assumed that it would be in a positive direction.

Unfortunately it's the exact opposite. The culture change has gone from bad to worse.... From ridiculous expectations to impossible expectations.

More importantly you can't change the culture with the same people who created it!

Same leadership equals same results. FAILURE!

If most of the higher ups here picked their nose their head would collapse. The level of stress the managers put on the AR's makes me want to go talk with a lawyer about the practices going on now. Remember dip shits how you make others feel says a lot about you.

Why is enrollment a down? CRM, new tour, holidays. Yet it's blamed on the ARs and their managers. They can't force people to go to school. That's not the way to get students that persist anyway.

The other side is the lead providers. Hello this is clown college USA I've got a super excited student that wants to talk about your psychology program... What was your name again? Not like it matters I'll send the lead to a random person because who gives an eff.

You want more and better students? Quit using degree match, liquid Ed, education USA, etc. quit buying dependent student leads, and create a national ad campaign with the number to call in. It doesn't help that no one has heard of South or Argosy when an AR talks to them.

They talk about change while continuing to use outdated methods. It's a shitty approach. They're willing to change everywhere but where is needed.

I 100 percent agree with this statement. Focus in changing the higher leadership. There's not I've president, Vice President, director in ALL departments online that should have a position worthy of their title. Stop targeting managers and staff on being let go and focus on who you have running and training that place. It's a complete mess and they are the ones who created and maintain the negative culture. There's no respect for any of them online

You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip. Their new ad campaign is to make it seem likes its not just a diploma mill by advertising how tough it is to go to an Art Institute. The problem is, they ARE a diploma mill. 90% of the type of student they take into the school would never make it in a regular college or university. So pushing them harder translate to more drop outs, not better students. Sort of a catch 22 if your main goal is profit. You can always push talented motivated people to acheive higher goals, you can't push dip$hit slackers lacking any natural talent to be any less of a slacker.

I see nothing has changed in the years since I left. The campus I was at did the same thing with instructions. They pretended like we were artificially passing students who failed. AKA grade inflation. "be professional and strong like up" The truth is none of were doing that, but they would not address problems of students in a timely manner. They had a policy which allowed a student to get straight "F" in all classes return for several terms on some kind of fake probation. (most schools would not let you return at all) When we brought this to the attention of our academic department head, he just said it was the school policy and nothing could be done. So milking the bad students for money, and keeping them in the classes bringing everyone else down with them.

Students are not passing their classes either...so not only are applications down, but the grades of existing students are down too....not good. Not good at all.

Exactly... The talk is hey look at us. Look at how professional we are now. Look at how we're doing everything right and should be emulated.

The reality is because of all the changes, applications have dropped considerably and management is coming down hard.

are you saying that because things are harder now (tougher financial aid/admissions/academic standards) that they are coming down on ARs even more than ever? I've been removed for about a year now
