Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Cronyism

The CEO grimly reports 25% of management is cut. What he does not say is that every one of these severed and retired got huge severance packages.

All of the EVPs hand out severance packages to friends and cronies except one. HR and Legal hate this because employees know games are being played and this inconsistecy can lead to lawsuits. So now everyone is unhappy. One thing we know... the EVPs that layed off thousands of years of experience will get huge bonuses and the EVP that played games will get a huge bonus. This is called win -win at ConocoPhillips

189387 well said. 41 year employee here. Work hard and loyal to myself my family and Phillips petroleum/conocophillips and it has paid off. No drama no pointing fingers just doing my job and worrying about me and no one else. Not a shifty company at all

"People who got severed got severance packages". Well, duh, what is your point? You work, you get severed, you get paid compensation for that. If you are eligible for retirement, you get retirement. I heard that 75% of people who volunteered for severance got it. The people who kept their jobs were probably happy there was such a program. I worked for CoP for over 30 years. Made a lot of money, and although courted by headhunters several times during my career - in the end it didn't look much better to leave. Yeah, I was one of the severance volunteers, because I made enough money from this "shitty" company over my "shitty" career to have a secure retirement at well less than 60 years old. And I have survived about a half dozen of these layoffs with the company during my career, as the company has survived as well. And was not management - before you go there.

Good luck in trying to find something better.

How long did you work there before you knew it was a bag of shit? How long did you STAY there after you knew it was a bag of shit?

I'd suggest not worrying about it - COP is a shitty company with a lot of shitty people under its employ. Never thought I'd be releived to get a 'package' but was I ever. move on, trust me , you'll feel better in a month - 6 weeks and the next thing you find will be better than 'surviving' this bag of shit
