Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Lots of fat left to trim in the next round -- if they care to do so, after they let lots of good people go

It's a shame that Chevron let go of lots of productive employees in the first 2 rounds this year. There are instances of total shock and amazement when we hear the the names of certain employees being let go. We don't know which planet Chevron managers are from.

It's sad that nepotism rules at Chevron. If they want to be lean and efficient ala XOM (which will never happen!!!), they should have a serious look at positions / titles what have anything to do with "Coordinator" or "Liaison" -- or organizations / positions that did not exist before 2008, and which we have no clue what they do, e.g., SPOC (Strategic Planning and Organizational Capability). Was the group created to find a position for a friend that has no where to go, and it exploded into a monster? How about positions / people whose sole job is to attend meetings, and we have no clue what they do, what's their output? We have so many people whose function is to attend meetings, or act as "reminders" for someone else to do his or her job.

PE's are over rated. The money spent is in FE. PE's should be out sourced. Dime a dozen and over hyped.

There are many LGBTs at Chevron and a protected class. We've seen African-Americans laid off and many 50+ cut. It seems that the hard workers are being targeted. Now there are waves of the best people raising their hands to leave. At the end of November CVX will be a new company filled with the backstabbers, friends and family gangs, the protected and a few good men and women who can't leave due to obligations, child care, mortgages, college funds to pay for.

Do you mean a safety company that happens to produce oil?

OC has been thrown out the window through Social Engineering and other Liberal-minded ideals in Chevron. Promotion of social programs like Affirmative Action has contributed greatly to lowering our Organizational Capability structure. - Please don't misinterpret my statement as racist. We have employees who are in the minority protected class, and are well prepared. But we are know too many are not well prepared, but are promoted to fulfill the needed quota.

There's no surprise that Chevron's organization capability structure is way off balance and has been that way for 10 or 15 years. This problem is not fixed in a short turnaround either. Chevron has and will continue to pay the price for allowing this to happen. Organizational Capability is key.

Wrong ... It's that we are a technology company that happens to produce oil. Never the less the ones that a furthest away from the well head or do ding and producing the oil should be hired and retained at lower rates than the ones who are close to the well head . FEs merely support PEs in this company . And there are far to many FEs . The problem is that there are more FEs in. Management positions and than PEs

508. Word I got when I first came to Chevron is that we are indeed a construction company that just happens to be in the oil and gas business. Unfortunately, our construction engineers have morphed to "project managers"; even the new ones who don't have a solid foundation as a FE. And so we support many engineering companies who actually do the engineering work. With that being the case, I have no idea why we need so many of them, especially with so little work going on. I agree we need more PE's but please realize many of these FE's could learn to do the PE work if given. Good mentor and some time.

If by "cultural specialists" you mean "politically correct specialists", then I agree... if we have one, we have too many in the company. Fire them all. They are a hinderance.

How about the battalion of "cultural specialists" we have in the company?

Yes, yes...let's all blame each other and fight for the crumbs while those at the top laugh with their feast.

508 is correct .I am a petroleum engineer, the basis on which this energy company was founded . This company has to many FEs and everyone in it knows that and everyone knows they don't do anything . I've worked in ops, reservoir and drilling and tomorrow I could go do the jobs of FEs in this company without a problem . you stick any FE and ask him to run a simulator, plan an acid job or write a drilling program and I garuntee he will have his thumb up his ass.

193508.

Presume you are a 'special' Petro-tech?

I think you will find that we are an energy company rather than an oil company, albeit one with significant bias towards hydrocarbons.

Regardless, success and delivery requires a blend of skills and knowledge, working together and supporting each other.

I worked in the UK once and picked up some interesting language. An example which sticks in my mind to this day....."Wind yer neck in!".

It's also a shame who wasn't and was hired . The intern who worked in my group was ranked number 1 in everything he did and was not offered a job . The company hired 3 PEs CNAEP wide and over 10 FEs aka project managers . This is an oil company not a construction company .
