Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Culture, Leadership and Layoffs at Oracle

You will never, be given any raise that is any less than pitifully insulting for the amount of work you do. Think 1% or less every few years, if you are lucky to get any at all... Meaningful bonuses are awarded to sales people only, and if you are, your quotas will not be achievable. Oracle is useful if you want to come and get some experience - but only if you need a flexible, steady job and don't give a penny about a career, especially if you are a lady.

Be sure to understand the organizational chart before you decide to join because facts don't lie, and you will see very few women in leadership or management positions - there is good reason for this, if you have family you will find it almost impossible to work here. For the most part there is a lot of so called leadership, mostly folks who spent decades at Oracle and who learned the political game (which is brutal) - they know Oracle and nothing else.

They are ruthless and supreme back-stabbers. Try suggesting any change to them - it'll be shot down very quickly. Try to call their attention to innovation or improvement - you may be laid off. Such culture is not good for anybody's career - personal growth will be limited. The company is managed top down, when they need to make numbers they will cut staff, this will happen trust me. There will be layoffs always, and if the economy slows down, huge layoffs will follow - Oracle is not kidding here - I've seen it in 2013, 2014 and 2015 - all three years we set records as it relates to revenue but we still laid off a ton of people.

There are many good sides of Oracle and we often forget that - the company pays well, our benefits are good and it's a great and well recognized name - I know that there are many unhappy people here but that's true for pretty much any other company. Layoffs will happen always, it's capitalism and we are shifting thing offshore only where competitive pressures demand so

After 18 years at Oracle I finally left on my own accord. Everything mentioned above matches my experiences accurately. It's so nice working for new company where my contributions are appreciated.

Absolutely correct and in many cases the HR is a sitting duck and passes on responsibility to Manager.

If manager is lousy then it's hell there, all the escalation channels can trap you only! It's a good place if you play politics for 50% of your time because many are not risk takers and go by rule book. Not a good company if you are bold and want to be creative. The company can choke you if the manager is not happy. Outside world is much bigger and better.

It's a very old fashioned company so beware of it!

Yep 100%. You may get a 1% or 2% bump in wage every few years. Forget about applying for a more senior position as an IC (individual contributor) your wage won't be increased to reflect the new position, unless you are at a director level or above. They seem to move at will across all LOBs. Was told unofficially if you want to get ahead at oracle, leave and come back. But you need to sit out for 12 months before coming back. If you don't wait the 12 months you go back onto your original wage when you left.
