Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron announces MASSIVE layoff in Indonesia.

FYI...this is exactly what all BU's should expect....

Chevron Indonesia has identified a more flexible and competitive business model. And in order to achieve it, layoff are necessary. This action will give additional values for all stakeholders, including the people and the government.

Chevron’s management in Indonesia is also preparing another efficiency program, which consists of early retirement towards 25 percent of its total employees. Chevron currently has around 6,300 employees, with 30,000 partner employees in Indonesia. The US-based company will also close down the health care facility in a hospital or clinic, education subsidy, rental houses for the employees, and family gathering trip activity.

Expats will be given preference to job selection in the states. This process will place additional pressure on the few available positions available considering the upcoming reductions. There are so many BUs heavy on the "management" side which could be easily be pared to allow for productive workers. It is ridiculous to have 10+ managers/leads in Drilling with the very limited drilling / work over operations presently. If it weren't for management protecting their own - those mgt. positions would have been elimated long ago.

I can certify what @1aez just said is the truth. Only 5% of the expats will have a job and the rest will be laid off. Only the best and the well-connected will stay with Chevron. It's really a big waste of talent since more than half of our expats are worth the money they are paid. The older ones will have it the roughest as many will be forced to retire early before their time.

I am one of the expats. The message is, we will move you back and you can apply for a job in PDC. My supervisor reinforced what we all know and previously posted. Their will be no jobs to post to. The 5% number was quoted by my boss. He said the 5% will be the connected. The rest are gone. So for the folks in the U.S. this is not a, expats come back and take jobs. This is we all get fired. As has been repeated their will be not jobs to post for! Good luck and we all know this is not a reflection on our work or us personally. It is what it is. We stayed in a poorly run organization by choice. Now the consequences are here.

No. Expats are in same situstion. Only a small percentage will be placed the rest layed off like the rest. Goal is to get them home and to lay them off. Not to place them.

This means many more US employees will be laid off to make room for returning expats.

Hold on now my Chevron brothers and sisters. Chevron can not be upfront. Chevron is closing the BU and the pressed release was after this decision. They have wanted to sale the EK block for a few months. They did say that production would still saty in the hsnds if Chevron. That was the lie. 50 yrs of production of EK block in Indonesia is done. Assets will be returned to Indonesia by 2018. There will be a handful of Chevron employees for Deepwater exploration.

The 6,000 jobso have been eliminated. These jobs are not part of the enterprise ROM rather part of the target sale of 14 billion in assets Watson eluded to in the quarterly call.

The enterprise selection process is supposed to be sending most but not all expats back to their home country. It's focused on upstream but includes other groups as well.

The article states thousands will be layed off. So I guess there are thousands of expats? I think the after this ROM we will clean the shutters on a rotating basis?

Interesting. It would make sense all expats as they won't have a place to live. Closing down employee housing and the clinic. This is called, Chevron is in emergency mode!

Almost all upstream business units aw going through a reorganization/layoff process. This shouldn't really be news with $29 wti.

I've heard through an inside IBU source that the local workforce is exempt... so the numbers will all be expats...
