It is sad to see all the hate and discontent that emerges in some of these comments. Even North verses South??? I myself don’t agree with some of the rash actions taking place without thinking first.
My suggestion (take it or leave it) to the non-happy people is to GET OUT OF THE OILFIELD and try a different commodity industry. I have been there and done that. No matter what company you work for, many do the same as Halliburton when a downturn occurs. An auto manufacturer is one example. Many other companies not associated with Oil do the same thing.
If it makes you feel better to throw a fit about the situation by all means do it.
Here is how I stay a mostly sane during all this (No I am NOT perfect):
I was not owed a job at Halliburton when I applied.
I personally accepted the offer and job I have knowing the conditions of a large company’s way of business for profit. (NO MATTER WHAT A PERSON AT A COMPANY SAYS ABOUT “We are Family” or “Job for Life” etc. Those are words learned at University in Business classes focused on employee morale.
Basically, I made a choice to join a commodity based company.
I am in Bill payoff mode no matter how small of a dent I can take out of them.
Lastly, what is going to happen WILL and there is NOTHING I can do about it NOW! This is in reference to comments about butt kissers. They already may have solidified their place. And some have not.
Finally, I am very empathetic (Truly Sorry) to all persons trying to raise a family and be happy. This situation breaks my heart just as much as you even if I were to get to keep my job. I am working a day at a time now and it took a year for me to get to that frame of mind.
My hope is that this post does not get people irritated.
BUT GUESS WHAT? There is nothing I can do if there are any derogatory comments in this thread. Try to have a good day if you can. My thoughts go out to all that have lost their jobs so far and I could be next.
