Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Working for Chevron 25+ years and I am ashamed of the whole ROM/ESP process. The Chevron Way has changed. I don't know this company anymore.

The whole process was clouded with 'the good ole boys' cronie-ism. Anyone in a remote location was out of site out of mind. The people 'left standing' were some of the best employees I have encountered, but back-room deals were made. There was suppose to be transparency and that did not happen. Jobs were not awarded on performance, but on who you knew or who fought for you. I can't believe we are releasing employees with <2 years, yet hiring college grads. Our leadership should be ashamed of the ethos of the new 'Chevron Way'. I use to be proud of my company....now I am sad.

The corporate leadership team should be held accountable for allowing us to get in this situation. We were not 'lean and mean'. I understand all companies in this sector are laying off, but not to this level. . This company cares more about its shareholders than its employees. Watson is proud he can save the dividend to stockholders. Is he feeling any pain in his wallet??? Let's see what his bonus is for 2016!

To those left standing, my advice is to embrace new opportunities and don't look back. This company isn't worth it.

The Chevron Way was replaced by the Friends and Family plan. It was not how well you do your job, it was how well you kissed up.

Good Luck - to all those now out of work. Tragically a sad fact of life that many at one time or another have to deal with. The U.S. is changing in many ways and not for the better. 30+ years ago it came to my attention that public education institutions, Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable...etc. were working together to change our society. Behind closed doors employees were no longer being referred to as employees, but "human capital". A term used to dehumanize and remove emotions/feelings. I then knew I was the seeing the beginning of the end. White and Blue Collar Workers are seeing the impact. In the last 15 years alone people over the age of 55 to 65 saw age discrimination. Now discrimination impacts those over the age of 40. The new discrimination we are now seeing is the federal govt. giving monetary incentives to business to hire immigrants over U.S. citizens. Elimination of payroll taxes for up to 5 years, insurance requirements eliminated or subsidized. The list goes on and on. The America my ancestors fought for in the Revolutionary War is no longer.

I am not a Chevron employee but I am married to one.

I lived through hell when my husband went through ROM last year. To this day, I still cannot comprehend why we had to wait months to find out our fate and why we were made to pick 4 positions when he didn't get any of them. The only answer that makes sense to me is that Chevron wants to build this illustration that we have some say in the process even though we do not by any means.

Whom are you trying to fool, Chevron leadership?

I quit my job to support my husband's career advancement and the moment I learned about he was in ROM I started searching for a job. I will support him all the way but I have lost my faith in this company.

This layoff process was approved by those at the top of the corporate structure. It is designed to inflict maximum psychological pain to everyone, even those who remain employed. Chevron demands total loyalty and commitment from employees, especially that PC, multiculturalism, LGBT celebration, Chevron Way bs slogans about human eneygy, OE, etc, corporate religion. After everyone drinks the kool-aid and become good little chevroids, they are cut loose with maximum mental uncertainty and embarrassment. I believe that most open positions were already filled with management favorites, so many people were bidding on jobs that they would never get. This is beyond cruel.
