Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Signs we should have known of weak management?

I am curious to hear as signs that those employed by Chevron should have known or recognized as weak management, as compared to competitors in the industry such as XOM. I am now employed by a company outside the O&G field at a much lower salary but much happier. I look back at the Chevron years as a totally different world, and realize the followings as signs that I should have looked for a different job way back then:

  • 5 to 10 min. for a safety moment -- even for 1/2 hr meetings with 2 or 3 attendees, with the awkward discussions about what people see on the way the drive to work!!! --> inefficient company.

  • folks recycling safety moment clips / PPT slides, even for "fake" ones -- remember the Purell safety moments --> inefficiency, fraud in the name of safety.

  • BBS reports EVERY MONTH FOR EVERY EMPLOYEE -- with employees making up BBS reports, and recycling old reports ---> this is a serious scam

I will leave it up to the board to add. It amazes me as whether stockholders know or care as how bad management is. It's a crime that management structure is still in place. The guy / gal who put this stupid BBS thing should be publicly identified and shamed.

When a company, chevron for example, states that their strength is in the diversity of their workforce and not in the competency of their workforce, then there is a problem. Nothing wrong about diversity, but job competency should be more important, not equally or less important. Also, the rampant nepotism of having a company policy of hiring friends and family? I am sure there is no conflict of interest in that, right? Makes you wonder how so many things have gone wrong with so many MCP's. Chevron has meetings and processes out the butt, but so many technical/engineering execution problems happen that should have been identified and corrected before they occurred. Too many incompetent and/or yes people who don't want to rock the boat.

3yjr- Excellent description of The Chevron Way. Shareholders take notes. Chevron has let go 6,000 with 1,500 more to go by the end of the year. The corrupt kick-back gang is still in tact. What does that say about stewardship of the company?

"Accountability". That won't be something that will ever be included in The Tenets of Operation at Chevron. No sir, because if it were included, that would decimate our so-called leadership all the way up to the CEO of the corporation.

@HDuq5tY-3yjr, You make some good points, but unfortunately, great leaders like those you have mentioned don't exist anymore for the most part and definitely not in publicly held major corporations for many reasons. Having to please a minority element is one of them.

You know that there is a basic and fundamental problem with an organization (chevron) when there is a higher priority placed on meetings, spreadsheets, more meetings, getting along (groupthink and not showing initiative), lack of true leadership and accountability, following processes and procedures, petty spying/backstabbing/favoritism (BBS, PMP, friends and family hiring) than it is to actually get real work done. All of this flows from the top down. A company is a reflection of its top management. Someone like Gen. Patton, Lee Iacocca, Chef Ramsey, etc would never make it at Chevron. They actually demand and expect bottom line results and accountability. No more of this fuzzy, emotional PC multiculturalism social engineering. I could go on. You know what I am talking about.

What's with the poster who reads other people's posts and the first thing that comes to his mind is "mens butts and limp noodles" and other male genitalia? I would rather just read the stupid crap than some pervert trying to make everything into a gay joke.

Err, don't answer. It was rhetorical.

Dear investor, we are also plagued here at chevron with illiterate butthurt employees who can't spell and don't have a clue about the companies financials but pretend to online, like @HDuq5tY-2qkl, who is dead wood and will be sh--canned soon. That alone is a reason to consider other investments.

Dear Investor - Your perception of the company is correct. Don't keep any sizable position in CVX. The stock is not going to bounce or rise soon. The likelihood is it will descend into the $80's before year end. Chevron's management is weak and its processes are not working well. Oil prices will continue to be too low to spur growth for the next 18 months at least. The company is heavily in debt and still in layoff mode. This is a terrible distraction for the employees and moral is at an all time low. Invest your money elsewhere.

As an investor, I find some useful information about CVX as a stock play on this website. Sometimes someone actually has some good inside information about the financial health/project viability of this company. This thread has actually made me think about taking all of my money from this stock. Either CVX has some angry trolls or this company really needs some psychiatric specialists on staff. Does CVX have a ERP program or such for the angry employees?

BBS / Osprey is not the problem. Sure it was a waste of time, but the biggest waste of time was the continual analysis and re-analysis of the same data over and over because management were too scared and incompetent to make field development decisions. Invariably they were forced into a poor decision and it is always horribly conservative and badly executed. CPDEP was the perfect process for countless middle managers to hide behind while waiting for time to march on and better development options disappeared in front of their eyes. Hundreds of millions of dollars in lost opportunities and ridiculous conservatism. That's what should, but never be demonstrated to shareholders.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA its @HDuq5tY-1wit - The loser with "No woman, No prospects, No job, and No Future"!! He thinks that by pointing out these traits in anonymous posters online at the "Layoffs" forum, where he frequents because he has "No woman, No prospects, No job, No Future" then maybe that will alleviate his pathetic situation.

God Bless you, sweetheart - You will find an ugly fat woman soon to compliment your appearance in due time - hang in there, sweetie - you seem like a real SWEET guy - ROTFLMMMMMMMMFFFFFAOOOPUZZY!!!

Put your knife away, 1vkw. Lol. I went back and read what @vke posted. Where does he say anything about him taking up 2 parking spots? He said parking "diagonally". How many times have I seen this done all over town? Plenty, and no one double parks, they only take up one parking spot, only not parking straight. Get a grip.

I can afford 20 Porches and STILL continue my current happy paid-for rich retirement with the BIG Keys to my modest high mileage high mpg vehicle that will go for another 200k with ease that I use to KEY many many A-hole's stupid gas guzzling POS gay cars like the one that you own and will continue to do so. Those cars are for men who have inferiority complexes/small pe--ses and can't get women any other way and generally still can't even with the car because normal women know they are dorks with the tell-tale "pseudo-rich-guy" car complex !!! Hey Porche Boy: I don't use keys to show my displeasure with jerks like you who selfishly take up 2 parking spots. I use my knife to ensure I get through the clear coat, the top coat and primer and then to the bare metal. Now go get it touched up and next time park properly. Oh, and it doesn't have to be first move forward.

You wish no such thing @1arn. Sniveling little people like you live out fantasies in their mind all day long. If you would have seen my Porche, you would have stood there and admired it, wondering what you did wrong in life to not afford one yourself. You would have left your keys in your pocket and walked on, just as you've done so many other times in your life.

Democracy panders to the weakest people; the lowest common denominators of society. All the while thoroughly corrupting the institutions of government and commerce alike as it steamrolls quality for quantity, and excellence for the mediocre. Chevron is just a microcosm of that on That as they are attempting to run the business on popular opinion and virtue signaling.

I worked in a group in ETC where four people quit within 2 years due to one amazingly incompetent manager. One guy left within 6 months. Yet, everything else was to blame, except the poor management.

Stock holders, you should be aware these stories of mismanagement are the tip of the iceberg. Chevron middle managers are being paid $250,000 a year to sit on their hands and not investigate kickbacks, ignore nepotism, and cut any of those asking questions.

Those last 2 posts sum up everything. The actual work was not bad, but you had to watch out what you said or did, no matter how innocent or truthful and who you said it to. Everyone had to be considered the enemy because you would never know if someone would rat you out for some perceived offense. Just keep your mouth shut and go along with with the groupthink. The best part of the day was going home.

Things are even worse now after the ESP. Inefficiency now escalating at a time we should all be working closer than ever to save our collective asses. Inefficiencies driven by new obstacles at every turn as everyone tries to wall off their territory. Be careful scaling or removing PC obstacles to your opco's success. Be careful trying to achieve the assignments you have been given. You will be singled out as difficult to work with or not exhibiting Chevron behaviors if you inadvetantly step on someones toes trying to get your job done. We have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.

@wnd, I understand you perfectly. There are countless times I had to hold my tongue. In today's corporate culture, that kind of directness from an employee to another employee is frowned upon and depending on the circumstances, can lead to disciplinary action. We live in a litigious world, complicated by political correctness run amuck. These matters of calling out an employee for laziness or inefficiencies are to be left to management. They know what's going on, only they sometimes feel they don't want to get involved in that mess themselves. Some supervisors may even have reprisals against their own subordinate if you bring a matter like that to their attention. Only if something criminal or unethical is happening, let your supervisor know and make sure it's privately communicated. Don't tell your coworkers. If that something involves anything lesser, like reporting another employees laziness or not doing their job, it's best to leave that be and mind your own business. Believe me, I see these things all the time. Sometimes it takes years, but all of a sudden, those lazy people are jettisoned from the company.

When a colleague was reprimanded and given a "3" rating when he asked a secretary point blank why she didn't do what was part of her job. His bluntness asking "What do you do with your time" was considered "not the Chevron Way." We told each other to keep our mouth shut and not to question / point out any inefficiency / incompetence.

I bucked the system for years. Instead of backing in or pulling in straight, I parked diagonally in the office parking spaces. This avoided everyone parking next to me until the two spaces on either side were the last two available. I did this to avoid getting the doors dinged on my Porche. Worked like a charm until they restriped the spaces for diagonal parking only. Lol.
