Thread regarding Sears layoffs

"Our jobs are much more simpler and more enjoyable"....

...was the excuse coming from Sears Holdings regarding speculations of Kmart shutting down and their claim of "a new way of doing things".

I don't know a whole lot about Kmart and if the jobs of its employees are simpler and more enjoyable. I highly doubt it, but it certainly isn't the case at Sears.

Everyone is under so much pressure to hit every single number and demand from corporate. We have to make do with less. Less hours for anyone who's not on commission or a manager yet so much is expected.

Sears is so interested creating convoluted and freqently changed standard operating procedures for everyday tasks. They see nothing wrong in using technology that never works, (ipads, SNCs, registers) slowing us down more and more. Sales people have to clean the store and put things away (and ring people up at the CAC) on top of their regular duties because the people that are supposed to do that are given no hours. Otherwise it will NEVER get done. We even run out of common everyday supplies like tape, soap and pens.

Even managers are getting burned out. Store managers are burning out like cheap lightbulbs, we go through one every year it seems. Makes you wonder if working at Sears is more sombering than being employed at a funeral home. Nobody seems happy here.

Its the same at my Kmart. There was a big thing with the t-shirts a month back as if that will change something. All merchandise has to be out of the back room. They want nothing to go back. We have half of the people that we are supposed to have to unload the truck and the same people are supposed to put out all of the merchandise and the things that cant go out have to be located in the back also by the same people. All of this has to be done in in the 4 hours that they give us.

On Sundays everyone that is there early in the morning to do the ad set, they are all only scheduled for 4 hours. Hours were cut even more so most people have 3-4 days and 3-4 hours each of those days. Our DM is also doing the same thing screaming about everything. We have 8 RMUs that some times work. These people have no idea what they are doing

At our Kmart store, we have run out of register receipt and Catalina paper AND BAGS.

"Borrowing" from another store is a big no-no. But we have a creative DM (no store manager right now) who got bags from another kmart and receipt paper from a Sears to get us through.

If we run out of anything we are told to wait until the next monthly supply order, which takes two weeks to arrive from the time order is placed.

As far as toilet paper, soap and paper towels, we have plenty of that. It's called Smart Sense brand. Anything damaged when it comes off the truck or ripped open by members gets used in the store.

I have friends who work at Dollar Tree and Dollar General. Same sh!t happens over in those chains.

Nope, same at KMart. New rules, too many rules i.e what T-shirts to wear on what days, clock in and out on time (within 30 seconds of your schedules time) which leads to people standing around the registers 10 minutes before they are to get off, get merchandise out of back room, unload truck with 1/3 the people we used to have but expected to do it in the same time, slow registers which leads to bad customer feed-back which leads to DM yelling and screaming, as if we can do anything about old equipment. No copier, no repair on broken down equipment, RMU's that don't work, no soap in bathroom, no paper towels (not in budget), less hours, no raises etc, etc, etc.
