Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Don’t blame the CISCO, blame the lack of leadership

I remember the days when CISCO was a great place in which employees enjoyed to go into and walk out of happy. Back then, we had some great leaders, leaders who had vision and cared about the company and its employees.

But now, with this “leadership” everything comes down to a simple sum of numbers, every employee is just a number. If one expresses his human side, the "management" sees that as a weakness. No room for creativeness, no room for illness, just room for “go faster, your time ticks”; faster to meet the goals which “the leaders” cowardly and intentionally set onto managers to ensure they couldn’t be successful - just to be sure that their layoffs’ quota will be met.

I doubt that this approach would give anything good, but I am sure that our “leadership” has no trouble sleeping with it at night.

As for my sleep, two facts really help. One is the fact that our character was never in question, and the other is thought that even our CEO’s time ticks.

Well the exec types all tout their position responsibility is primarily to the shareholders (stock price). Considering the stock minus recently was stagnant low 20s and below, shouldn't they have been changed out like losing streak dealer in Vegas? Instead they are openly praised and showered with bonuses that are x4 the people they just laid off to compensate for their own lack of performance.

Shame, it used to be a desirable place to work, now.. just resume fodder and probably not even that in the near future.

Better blame both, "Cisco" and the leadership. After years of negative selection by an inept management the shop floor is not in best shape either. The "character" of many employees is either to wait patiently for their Green Card (which I understand and accept). Or they managed to become part of the mess, enjoy the benefits and otherwise are more a headcount than a contributor.

This is beyond repair. So unless you are stuck (see Green Card above) move on. You want a vision - find a company with a vision to buy into.

...so once in a while, it would be nice to see "leadership" in stack ranking or LO list, for their performance.

All levels of managers ( first, second, dir) seem to get away with anything- if you believed all the reviews written by ex-emp.
