Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Where will Intel be in end 2017? Only time will tell!

Despite what we all think about BK's leadership prowess, nothing much will change at Intel until the day some company like AMD/ARM/IBM is able to take market share away from Intel and cut off the cash cow. Intel sells processor chips at daylight robbery prices, but what can one do when there is literally no alternative for donkey years! I would really like to see AMD deliver on Zen and give consumers a choice, but looking at AMD's history, delivering is not one of their strength.

Intel's culture of building fiefdom, internal turf fighting, back stabbing, brown nosing, entertaining the higher ups, parties and drinking sessions with highers ups, all these culture are built over years due to Intel's grip on monopoly of the processor market. Go over to Asea, walk into a PC mall or electronic mall, you'll see at least 20 choices of Intel laptop/PC for every AMD laptop/PC. Most don't even carry AMD. Even if you want to buy a AMD laptop/PC, you'll need to run around to find one.

BK and gang can sing about 5G, big data IoT, drones, I simply don't see it going big time with Intel a major player. But what I can see is that there are MANY Intelliers who believe Intel is still the greatest and are giving their life to Intel, even to the stage of neglecting their own spouse and kids.

Where will Intel be at end of 2017? I would think another massive layoff at Intel if AMD is able to deliver on Zen. Although majority of my ex-colleagues at Intel thinks I'm just being sour grapes. Only time will tell.

People that call Realists sour grapes are Optimists. I've had Optimists call me a Pessimist when my view on something is actually realistic (I'm a Realist so call things as they are). So, sorry, optimistic people, when my realist view at times sounds pessimistic to you.

The same thing is going on with those calling you sour grapes. They lack the ability to see things realistically so call names if your view isn't rosy. The REAL view on this matter is not your fault!!! You're just calling it as you see it.

@J4Fqek8-ysu If you are on the design/test/product/qr side lots of opportunities and some US too, but get there before the layoff

If you are in TMG and fab, SOL unless willing to go to the Far East!

OP spot on! Any Intel employee below grade 12 and not on the good side of senior VP needs a parachute as more layoffs as you noted is for certain!!

Intel miss forcast PC bottom and total volume continues to drop and will continue to drop, my forecast to 200million. That is why revenue has stalled as have profits. The only saving grace is servers but as fast as that has grown and as profitable it isn't large enough to sustain this company. They must find growth areas to justify huge RD in silicon and investment In fabs or end up like IBM who even with mainframes and POWER couldn't justify and sold to GF.

Now Intel was lucky at 14nm as demand was low as was yield so no shortage was apparent to the public. The situation at 10nm is still TBD. They have fabs and capacity built for a volume forcasted years ago, but we know how yields are don't we, LOL. If they don't fix 10nm soon there will be more than Kaby and Coffee on 14nm, maybe TSMC will do BKLake.

The 14nm ramp almost crushed TMG and the 10nm will destroy the organization. The costs per die will be eye popping just as demand continues to drop and they raise spending on commodity efforts like IoT, memory and modems that sell for a few bucks instead of hundreds.

Conclusions as you correctly deduced huge layoffs and worse.

Amazed the board doesn't see this, but look who is on the board!

Even if AMD fails to take significant share of PCs from Intel, the overall PC market will continue to decline.

Where will Intel make up the difference?

There will be some growth in servers (data center) but not enough. Combine that with margin pressure from large cloud service providers and China and you've got some real issues.

5G, IoT, mobile and all the rest of the buzzwords? It will be years, if ever, for Intel to grow these - against FIERCE competition - into businesses that are even a fraction of the PC market.

Lower revenue and margins means cost cuts: more layoffs, more sites, more products, more R&D. If your buds back at Intel don't think it's coming, then they've been drinking the kool aid too long.
