Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

This all was happening with or without the strike. The strike actually prolonged things so there is no comeuppance. Because of the strike, those who got/get riffed actually got to work longer and plus they made big money as EWAers. A win for them. Union loses as always.

I have worked for tthe same time since 7/03 and it s---s that the eliminated good peole many of my friends and all i know in my adult life, it just seems the writing is on the wall and eventually sales will be gone...unfortunatley im in until they tell me to go cause with pay and vacation time im dumb to leave but i believe it will happen eventually

@meu let me put a face or a name that you called the so called greeters I was an ES and OS I loved my job I hated greeting because it was not my job I did my job for 14 years and I was damn good at it maybe if I wasn't I would have kept my job because all of us that did the job did it well trust me there will be more losses to company and it won't matter to them because they will close the store. This layoff hit both union and non union stores what is sad is they let good people go and more is coming.

The union provided no protection to the Brooklyn employees laid off and to the Everett mass store being closed, and all you other people saying union this and union that ....WIRELESS IN NON-UNION, nobody working in any store accept a handfull in Brooklyn Ny and 1 in Everett Ma were union employees. nobody in any store aside from those were union, nobody is a scab or took someones job. I feel horrible for the employees let go , but the way to cut cost is eliminate the non essential positions. The operation and experience specialist position is easily absorbed into the existing sales(solutions specialist) position, half the time the layed off workers did nothing but greet , all the other non sales tasks were and are still being done by sales reps with quotas who spend their days dealing with customers forgetting email passwords or device troubleshooting or any non sales time wasting task. Most stores wont miss a beat unfortunatley. But alas the job still pays well and benefits are great etc , its not everywhere you can make 60-70k working 40hrs a week wearing sneakers and jeans in the air conditioning. I know sales time will come but until then i guess ill stick around, its really a pretty easy gig

That's right. The shareholders don't like expensive so they want lesser employees at lower wages. Look at Verizon's IT department for example, almost completely run by India and for the worse now.

That's right we are expensive, and we'll worth it. If we weren't we will still be on the street. The smart guys found out these jobs are a bit harder than expected, it's called skilled labor, dummies.

Get rid of all you wireless scum,you thought you didnt need a union a long time ago now you want to organize ,well its to late so go work at mcdonald 's there hiring or kmart just like you told all those union members when they were on strike for their jobs,now you got a taste of your own medicine,it tastes terrible right

Of, wow well said and so true. My last day was Friday, taking the EISP. I thank all my union brothers and sisters for the commitment to the fight. More workers in this company should organize, but instead they work week by week hoping to hang on. Because of my age I will continue to work, good luck to all.
