Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Here is real idea of something we can do to stick it to Dave and the rest of HON management.

There have been many posts about forming a union. Some think it is a good idea, some don't. I'm not really sure what it would accomplish for us in the long run anyway and it would be difficult to organize and start up. So I'm offering an idea of something that is very doable and would at the very least p!ss off leadership.

Let's run a full page ad in a major national newspaper. It could be a "Dear Dave" letter or something of the sort letting him know how we all feel about working for Honeywell and how the events of this year (3 furloughs, 2 RIF's, MIP decrease for band 4, no raises and now the remote worker policy) have made Honeywell an undesirable place to work. The real goal here would be to make it go viral across social media and reach all the college students that Honeywell is desperately trying to recruit. If you haven't noticed, we've had all these pay cut measures and RIF's, yet management is out recruiting in full force at universities across the country. Interns from this summer that management decided to extend an offer to upon graduation were offered a $5,500 CASH BONUS. Honeywell wants to get rid of us and replace us with young, cheap labor. Let's let these students know that Honeywell is NOT the company they want to work for.

Running an ad would be expensive. I haven't researched into it fully, but saw a figure of around $100,000 to run something in the NY times. If we can set up a gofundme site and get enough employees to donate a small amount, we could reach that figure. Would it be worth $5 or $10 to you to embarrass leadership at a national level?

If this post gets enough attention and seems like the idea is well received we can look at getting this started. Will need to set up the fundraising site and also get a letter drafted to run in the paper.

I'd contribute to a gofundme. You can clearly see that we're all looking for a cohesive effort we can stand behind to say enough is enough. I, for one, will be keeping an eye and an ear out to contribute where I can. When communication no longer goes both ways, we have to find other avenues to speak out and be heard. Employment is supposed to be a relationship. And not an abusive one at that.

Why not get free press with a walk out across sites and notifying local media? Each site could have a prepared statement about everything being taken away from us why the execs get raises and bonuses.

Here's the thing though, Dave Cote does not give a flying f**k what we do.

He's sold off his stock and is now just coasting until his retirement.

In fact, he's probably actually going to stir up sht, just enough so that things tank just after he leaves, in the hopes that people will think his absence is the cause. Kind of brilliant really, if you're a self-absorbed prck with a huge ego. What I don't get though, is how a guy like that still manages to dress like fk pie for every quarterly townhall meeting. Does he think he's relating to the common man by dressing like an unsophisticated schlep? Even old-timer engineers with pocket protectors look like GQ models next to this schlub. You have a private jet for Chri sake, but J.C. Penny is your wardrobe consultant?

Send a PR to the college career counselors and college engineering clubs that Honeywell recruits from. They may steer new hires to other companies if they know how poorly HON treats its employees.

I'll totally pitch in, and I know many others who would as well. Question is how do we get the info out to those who don't check this site?

I like it but getting that organized and the cost associated with that what about large billboards by major freeways where large sites are located? Hard to list out everything but maybe it could be annonomous and we still get the message out how Hon is really treating their current as well as past employees?

Honeywell will be recruiting at Grace Hopper in 2 weeks (15000 mostly millennials looking for jobs, 90% women), in Houston. Last week of October, they'll be in Philadelphia at Society of Women Engineers. 9000 there. And Bob Smith is getting a big award about being a great male ally.

Then in November they will be in Seattle at the Society of Hispanic Engineers, also recruiting. (They've already attended Black Engineers and Native American... so those won't happen again until next spring.)

Since Honeywell doesn't pay regular engineers to go to conferences, we should all get sock puppet twitter accounts and live tweet during those conferences with the conference hashtag. I guarantee that the entire conference-going population will see it, plus members who can't attend and who will be watching the tweet stream.

Most of the people attending will definitely have a choice in employer. And most millennial women will eventually have families. Most such women will have partners/spouses who are also engaged in raising a family.

Telecommuting is an important option on the other end of the age and gender spectrum. The most typical telecommuter is older (50+), college educated, salaried, non-union employee. Sounds like a typical HON engineer. Now they don't want to retain us old white guys but tweeting to #aarp would also cause a stir because they are big advocates of telework for older folks for health reasons.
