Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

HQ positions next

It's been said that HQ positions that have always been safe in the past are up next. It's cheaper to hire outside consulting firms than it is to keep the dozens doing the jobs.

Also, vendor centers are said to be used less and more corporate centers will be beefed up due to the recent closings. This will keep the "image" of the company in good graces with their customers and hope to have a lower retention rate. But with the restructuring of all of the call centers to maximize the space, sups and reps are going to hate their job because personal space will be eliminated. Welcome desk sharing!

@kyw - watch for big changes in severance policy. That's an indicator of $hit about to hit the fan.

I know several HQ folks that were impacted that work out of closing centers. However, there has not been an actual RIF in HQ in about 2 years and it's long overdue. There is still a ton of redundancy and VLSS is doing the same stuff that HQ folks are doing. HQ will likely see RIF's after the dust settles from this round of RIFs.

As for vendor centers, they are not used less they are used way more and there are a few overseas. The only beefing up of existing centers is to offer relo to those currently impacted knowing most won't take it. Then, through attrition they scale back down, or have another RIF.
