Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Deer Valley

Man, I talked to a lot of people in the Deer Valley engineering office today and the moods and attitudes are lower than I've ever seen them in 25+ years of being here. I couldn't find anyone who still cares about this company or if they succeed. They are just going through the motions only to avoid losing their jobs but there is no enthusiasm whatsoever. If Honeywell Aerospace is to survive, they're going to have to dump everybody and start over, because this group of people have been pushed too far to recover.

HR has been reserving conference rooms for the week after next so that's probably when the RIF axe is going to fall. And those of us who don't get laid off are slapped with a furlough the very next week. So stress us out to the max by making us wait to hear if we've been laid off, and penalize us anyway even if we're not.

Honeywell used to be a great place to work. Lots of fun projects, smart people, sensible management, decent compensation. But this current leadership team has all but destroyed the company and its culture. I've had enough. If I was a little older I'd be gone tomorrow. Please Honeywell, just lay me off already. It would be a mercy killing at this point.

Been at Deer Valley most of 35 years. The morale is low, anxiety high, the smell of death is in the air. I have a lot of work through this year, but the meeting my supervisor scheduled for a "one on one" tomorrow makes me think I my number may be up. Was hoping for another 3 years.

Allied Signal should have let Honeywell die a slow death instead of acquiring the company when it was going bankrupt and taking their name. What a joke this company has become since taking on the Honeywell name. Keep on taking from the actual employees that make the products that are sold to pay everyone's salary. While the upper executives s--- out as much money as they can before the company crumbles.

Apparently the furloughs and layoffs are due to us being "too efficient." Good job guys! It's interesting how the internal e-mails we have received blamed the economy.

I agree with the OP... maybe we talked after the furlough email came out. I couldn't find anyone in Deer Valley engineering who still cares about this company or if they succeed. Morale is at an all time low.

Morale is at an all time low. How can anyone focus on working when it is one demoralizing blow after another?

Time to freshen up the Resume and look for another Job.

So I tell my wife about all of the BS and she asks me why don't we say anything. I tell her that we have these town hall meetings, but they either sift our the hardball questions about screwing the employees over, or the put pressure on our awesome immediate management that did nothing wrong other than trying to do their jobs. Does Aerospace management have ANY IDEAL to the slightest clue as to how pissed off the employees are? The SOSs and HOS isn't going to save them when all the engineers leave or get laid off! IDIOTS ALL!

Same thing here in Plymouth, MN! So many old timers WANT to get laid off! What does THAT tell you?! This company is run by Lawyers, Accountants, and CLUELESS Upper management. Our local management is awesome, but the guys at the top S---. Just a bunch of greedy a-holes that don't give a damn about the employees. Let's see how well the Ops folks can do with less Engineering support! And Eff the 20% free overtime to make up for the furlough!!!

I worked with engineers out in Deer Valley most of which have been there twenty years our more. Bright group, proud of those gyros. It's sad really what Honeywell has become and even more sad that the old timers wish they could get out but have to hang on just a few more years. Ugh... i hope it works out but my heart tells me it's going to get a lot worse.

I'm sorry to hear that about the morale in Deer Valley; we figured that this might have been a byproduct of treating the employees like a piggy bank. I want you all to know that I am deeply grateful for all your hard work over my tenure as CEO. You have made me richer than my wildest dreams. I now own land right on the beach on an exclusive island where I'm going to build a beautiful, 35K square foot mansion. I couldn't have done that without each and every employee willing to work hard, finish that project or innovate that new idea. You gave up raises, endured furloughs, RIFs, and other cost cutting measures to ensure that both my and my senior leadership team's compensation was not adversely affected. Thank you again.

Honeywell will still be a great place to work, albeit most of that work will not be in the US anymore. We just can't compete in a global marketplace when we are saddled with paying US workers. We need to diversify our workforce to compete in this challenging economic environment. All I can say is, please stay strong and keep doing your best until we have a chance to move your role out of the US. If you train your replacement, we will try to find you another role within the company that wont be RIF'd for at least 6 months.

All the best,

Dave Cote

Honeywell use to be a great place to work...I was there 18yrs and took my pension this past April and retired early. Now there having another furlough week. The moral was bad when I left. It's pay per, performance and they take a week's pay from ppl, my God how are you suppose to stay focused and positive. They have families to support. I don't know how this can be legal! It's very sad and a sad place to work anymore...I feel for my past fellow coworkers ☺

Tempe is exactly how you described as well, many people really don't care anymore. Sad to see, Allied had so many bright people with chances for upward mobility all over the place. The motivation has been s---ed out of the place like an air vacuum.
