Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Humana So Big, Bound To Burst

When I last counted, there were 13 layers of management between my role as a HAH HCM RN and the CEO. 13 layers- the coach, the COM, the director, the VP, the VP, the VP, the VP, etc! That means there are 14 layers between the member and the CEO. That is sheer craziness. Nothing as bloated as Humana has become will survive.

Unfortunately, the members are the victims as the corporation slashes the front-line staff to continue to make profit for its shareholders. It's all about the money in a profit-making corporation. Always was, always is and always will be.

As with all major 'health' insurances, all corporations, in fact, there is a cycle, grow big, hire, bust, fire. Repeat.

I wasnot 'downsized' - yet and I am sad to see that 600 of my co-workers were yesterday. I am sure my time is coming. And when it does, I am going to stick it out until the last day and take my severance pay. (unless I am termed first from failing to meet the impossible metrics!)

And, in the future. I am not going to buy an insurance policies through Humana or any of the other profiteers such as Aetna, Blue Cross, United Health. I will go non-profit with companies like Kaiser, Tufts, Harvard.

According to the Consumer Reports, the best health insurance companies are non-profits,,,

"Without shareholder concerns and other investor-related issues, nonprofit health care companies can better focus on their mission to provide care itself, said Dr. John Santa, director of the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center. “Investors have an expectation of getting a return and resources have to be devoted to that, and that creates a different culture,” Santa said."

In my opinion, the best retaliation for what is being done to us by Humana is to boycott. And ask your friends and family to support you by doing the same.

I love how the layoffs were announced yesterday as an offhand, indirect comment, buried in the middle of an email on a different topic. Spineless has been the name of the game all along

I agree with you on boycotting these profit insurance companies. They are horrible places to work and treat their members poorly and only care about money.

I was part of that layoff at Humana, I can vividly remember one of our leaders Mike Franke stated during a meeting that our department was safe. I knew then that our job was in jeopardy. At one time management wouldn't let people get out of department because peole didn't like the direction of department...now they are kicking us out. Like my colleague in the other post, I'm going to stay and get my full severance.
