Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

It happens...

Please realize a company made a business decision. There were layoffs. It happens. A riot won't happen, trump won't come speak against it. A program was cut.

Sad, but a reality of health care and funding. It's been this way for years, with CMS, grants, audits, etc. what happened isn't a call to arms, illegal, unethical or in violation of workplace standards. It's a layoff, plain and simple.

They've been planning to ship jobs out of country for awhile at Humana. They've been grooming people not in the continental US that they can pay crappy wages to. It is a business decision. Cheaper over quality, right? Maybe they won't have enough employees now to stalk members who are high dollar but don't want to be in the program.

Business decision? Really? They over hired and pushed us all to the breaking point. We skipped lunches and breaks and no I'm not salaried just to make sure we met their metrics. We gave until it hurt then gave some more. Then we get a 30 minutes cold a$$ meeting to let us know we are no longer important. We've been lied to and cheated. Do you all know that most of the rest of Humana doesn't even know this is even happening? That's how much we matter to MF & BB & the rest of the upper management. And to lay us off and then nonchalantly tell us the jobs are going to Puerto Rico that was just another kick in the teeth. Thanks so much Humana. And hey where is our CEO during all of this? Not even so much a little email or a post of Hi. Trying to cover up.

Wasn't trying to minimize, we are all confused, angry, scared and frustrated with what has gone on. I guess I've been lucky to not have experienced putrid abuse on my team as you have, and I am sorry you have. We all have had different experiences, and the common thread is now, "now what?"... with lots of regrets, frustration and concerns, not just for ourselves and our families, but our members

@hfm - you hit the nail on the head with this: "I think this site is releasing a lot of submerged feelings"

I just landed here and to an extent it's liberating that my frustration is shared with so many.

There are literally dozens of responses that voice what I feel right now (yes, I got cut)...

You are correct it is a business and we are employees who are really nothing more than pieces to be moved around and let go as the all so important market dictates.. But I think this site is releasing a lot of submerged feelings, that we honestly are not free to express at work, since the calls are monitored etc. We can not ever be really honest with our opinions. And I think this company as well as all the big insurance companies are a sad problem, This is not health CARE, this is a money making business for the shareholders and the top CEOs etc. If you believe in this model, bully for you. I had no idea how bad it was until I worked here, and I stay because I do like talking to the members and trying to help them etc. I have met wonderfully inspiring people of all ages members and coworkers. BUT The sad reality is taking government money, Medicare, and shifting it all around to limit what the recipients can get, and learning that our CEO stood to make millions if the Aetna deal went through, when we get platitudes and nice nice phrases like " Our Dream".... well I am sorry, when mbrs cry to me that they can not afford their premiums or meds or food... how am I supposed to jump for joy knowing that millionaires are making even more money beyond what they would ever spend in their lifetimes. I am not saying give away all the profits, understandably this is a business. But its an unbalanced model when people not necessarily deserving of such profits make so much while the workers deal with the nitty gritty and the members are not getting even the basic needs met.

Ive been laid off before. Very understandable that it's part of the work world. I think people are more up in arms about the putrid abuse that we've endured for almost 2 years, always hoping it would turn around. Being pushed beyond our capacities/well being over and over....not to be rewarded, but to resume abuse or to be discarded like trash after "record breaking profits." Never saw such indignities take place in a health care work place over my last 30 years as an RN. I don't know your role and how long you've been here, but please don't dare minimize what many of us have experienced. Being laid off was just the cherry on top of all the other insulting experiences
