Redundancy packages being reconsidered

I've heard from a reliable source in HR that there is talk about reconsidering the above what's legally required redundancy packages. The reason behind it is that they've realised too many people have now given up and are just waiting for the package. They figure if the package was only what is legally required this will either encourage these people to leave through their own accord or prompt them to start being productive again.

The scary part is, you won't hear about the change until your sat in front of HR and they communicate the package to you. If I hear more I will update this feed.

Good luck everyone Post H1 results.

I think it's a great idea. Even if they reduce it to 10% above the legal requirement that should motivate those wanting for a package to leave of their own accord and therefore less LRs

But Cisco wants to get rid of the OLDER, more EXPENSIVE workers, not just reduce headcount. If they just wanted to get rid of people for the cheapest cost, getting rid of people with less than 10 yrs and not having to pay out the bonus time for years of service would accomplish that.

The only reason I'd hang around is IF I knew I was getting LR'd in the next round, not hoping I'd be LR'd. It's easier to find a job when you have one, so start interviewing now and leave on your terms. Do like I did and save your PTO and take it with you as severance. Not nearly as good as the package, but you're guaranteed to have it while working your next job instead of hoping you land a new job before the severance package runs out. I'd rather be LR'd in Feb than in Aug-Nov as it makes the odds of landing a job quicker better than trying to interview at Christmas.

Why would it cause reputational damage? As if Cisco's LR culture couldn't be any worse or more public!

I assume you are talking about the US as laws are much stricter outside of the states when it comes to "restructuring". Realistically, can Cisco afford the reputational damage such a move would invoke? We are not exactly attracting the best and the brightest anymore and if President Trump sends our H1B's packing, where are we going to get anybody to work at Cisco?

I'd be surportive of this move if it meant less LRs and more deadwood just leaving!

You say that now. Wait until you're the one handed that package you just said you were supportive of.

I agree that deadwood should be cleared out, but when you're not deadwood and you get kicked to the curb, you want & deserve better than the bare minimum severance package.

It's not the deadwood that's leaving, it's those that know they can easily get a job somewhere else, but would like the benefit of Cisco tossing in 3+ months of salary to leave. Sure beats praying that Cisco makes its' numbers so we can get our spring bonus.

many deadwood are here as long as he/she is over 40, they should be kicked out with a few package

Could be fake but is plaisable. The amount of people I've spoken to who have now downed tools and won't leave until they get a package is unbelievable. Cisco needs to weed these people out, otherwise it spreads like a cancer and will destroy productivity. I'd be surportive of this move if it meant less LRs and more deadwood just leaving!

Giving out a fat package makes Cisco look like they're pro-Employee and really care about them. I'd love to know how many employees got RSUs in Sept/Oct but are now getting LRd.

Hope this new philosophy doesn't kick in before the rumoured layoffs this month! I think it would be a step too far and set a very unsavoury precedent for a company with billions in the bank to stab employees in the back while they are booting them out the door. Although, it already sort of happens when some managers screw the soon-to-be departed out of their deserved bonus so nothing would surprise me anymore. I'm just waiting for one of the Cisco HR trolls to call this a "fake story" now....
