Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowes misinforms media

It's not 1% of workers affected. All Department managers are affected. I estimate over 25,000 employees. If they do indeed follow through with eliminating DMs and making them reapply for jobs.

Where is the national boycott of this mass job elimination? The share holders made profit last year, just not as much as they wanted. Pure Corporate greed. Let's talk about the CEOs millions and millions a year he makes on his salary and bonus.

1-your math is wrong for 25,000

2- US stores are around 1730 total

3- 24 stores already run the model "the Chicago plan"

4- stream line managers and add part timers. Technically they cause us the part timers in the math since they are talking total # of people displaced. The affected people will have first dibs on the created jobs.

5- uneducated people are very cancerous for moral.

"if you have a good dm team how come they are doing all the work"

Whoever posted this is misguided and uninformed. A good department manager does not stand behind a desk writing emails and worklists for other people to complete. Someone who would post this obviously stands for laziness and complacency. In my store they are referred to as a "sidestack kicker" and they often wear khakis. These are the people that Lowe's should be down-sizing. Thank you to the good, honest, hard-working dms. Nice to see that some people aren't afraid to still roll up their sleeves and get s*** done.

"if you have a good dm team how come they are doing all the work"

I have to agree with the response to this question above. As an underling, it is more inspirational to have my department manager working alongside me in the trenches. Hard work is contagious. Department managers that put forth the effort to help wherever they can should be rewarded and not downsized. Blue-collar workers are what makes this company successful.

"if you have a good dm team how come they are doing all the work"

A hard worker wouldn't have to ask this question. Someone with a good work ethic would understand when a group of individuals decides to make every effort to support each other. Someone who earns an honest living understands that you lead by example. We are a store that was over 10,000 hours short of our target payroll hours. When a company minimizes their workforce to something so grossly understaffed, you turn to the people you can count on.

I'm sorry for all you who obviously have a weak department manager team. But imagine a store where the dms are the hardest workers. Where the electrical manager is a certified electrician, the plumbing manager is a certified plumber, a lumber manager use to build houses, a garden manager that was a well known landscaper, an appliance manager that has sold appliances for 40 years, and flooring and millworks managers that know the store operations better than any ASM/SM. A team that does all the code 50's and code 3's, a team that takes it upon themselves to order trucks, and cancel unneeded freight, a team that manages its inventory for what the customer is asking. A team that works together as the heart and life blood of its store. Our DM crew is the team that keeps the store going thru leadership and determination. Our store will likely go out of business. Lowe's corporate is breaking this store.

Actually it tested rather poorly in the Chicago market. Then only good that came out of it was good for the extra money the company makes so corporate big wigs can bonus better. I get that other companies have done this, that doesn't make it ok to take jobs away from your hardworking people to over stuff your own pockets. Who is going to drive your sales when you get rid of all your engaged full-time people? Someone who works 15 hours a week, beat up tired from the three other terrible jobs they had to work to make rent? This economy is broken, thanks Lowe's for as usual, being a follower, and helping destroy our country's economy.

I was an employee for 13 years, and left in spring of 2016, I could feel big changes were coming, and knew it was time to start a new career elsewhere that cares about their employees. I was also doing all my DM's paperwork, which was not right!

I am currently a DM for Lowes I have been here for 6 years. I recently came to the conclusion I was done listening to the redundant bull sh-- every Tuesday about how we needed to do more and more. Its never good enough for the higher ups that just want more money. I was going to give my notice but now will wait to see if there will be any kind of severance package. All of this is really no surprise. Do all you Lowes employees really think they care about you? You are just a number to them. Do you clock in with your name or a number? My store does exceptionally well for our region and still we are told weekly that we need more credit more sales more more more!!!! Well now its time to cut positions to get that never ending MORE. I am sorry for all of you that "Drank the koolaid" and truly believed that you mattered. I wish the best for all of you in your up coming job search.

The cuts will be much more than 1%. It's how you define "cuts." My hours as a PT employee have gone down from 30, to 25, to 20, to 15, and now 10 hours a week (I will be leaving shortly, 10 hours is a waste of my time). It began just before Thanksgiving and continues. And don't give me that "It's that time of the year" sh--. We a had record-setting holiday season here in Florida, and even did a million dollars one week in my store - they gave everybody ice cream!! What, am I in 5th grade again?!

We don't have enough people to help all the customers anyway, and people walk out all the time because no one can help them. How many times do customers have to complain about this? Yeah, Lowe's is all about the customer. NO, Lowe's is about what's in the customers' wallets.

I hazard to say that 15-20,000 employees will be affected by this. All the while, corporate salaries and shareholders' wallets are getting fatter. Why do they care if 20,000 employees are put through the ringer? This is the mentality of the wealthy class.

Unions can't come soon enough to Lowe's.

I would like to see them get rid of regional district managers who s--- up big bonuses and drive their boats all day and do absolutely nothing. That would keep store employees working. And corporate fat cats look out like Goldberg would say YOUR NEXT!!!!!!!

You know i have been Department manager for 9years. Have given my all while others don't. I can see why dm get bad images but my role is just a glorified csa with paperwork to do weekly. Not surprised when i started at lowes dms were salary amd then that changed then they added extra managers. Now instead of fixing problems they r getting rid of years of service for more money for themselves.

If they move DMs to a CSA5 position like I heard and lay off 1-2 ASMs per store, the number is more accurate to about 1%

As a customer and former stock holder, I'm not surprised. Lowes used to be my "go to" store in the 90's and 00's. Then something changed. I rarely go. I can't put my finger on it either, except to say the employees all appear depressed.

I owned the stock from 99 to 10 and was an absolute cheerleader during that time. Then one day I walk into a store and am ignored and not given the time of day. That's all I needed to know about the future of the company. Sold my stock the next day.

Corporate stooge? Haha, funny. Five department managers will be in charge of more than one department, helping the assistant managers. What do the department managers do differently than the hourly associates? Not much at all besides doing cycle counts which anyone can do. I've been with Lowe's 26 years and have seen many changes. When I first started Lowe's, department managers didn't even exist. It was the store manager and four assistants running the store. You people are a bunch of cry babies

Greed.....they also need to get the hell out of sponsoring a full time NASCAR driver as well. Reinvest that money spent on Jimmy Johnson and put it towards healthcare benefits for their employees....our benefits S---!!!!

Yeah, you sound like a corporate stooge.

Don't trust the above poster!

It will make things worse without a department manager! Do you really trust part time employees taking on duties?! It's a disaster here in Aurora!

They didn't lie to anyone. It has already been tested in the Chicago market, and has been successful. Most stores have 14 department managers. Do you really need that many in a store?? NO!! Nine managers will be leaving. Walmart, Target, and Depot don't have that many department managers either. Please just hang in there
