Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Catalog ordering without the pages

I was talking to a member the other day. He was asking me the "What happended to Sears" question. I get asked that a LOT.

People love Sears. The things he said were so passionate. We sell EVERYTHING.

I laughed.

And I told him this story.

Because we do. I was selling a guy a dryer one night and he mentioned his wife had left him. I said "What else did she take in the Uhaul? TV? Mattress? Furniture? I can't sell you a dog but I can sell you everything else she rolled away with. "

What the doom and gloom era on this site doesnt realize is Sears does have a place. And it always will.

Because that guy could have gone on Amazon and ordered a bunch of stuff but he wanted someone to talk to while he was buying things.

A website will never replace that.

A chat box with auto response will never replace that.

We sell EVERYTHING!!!!

Please don't lose sight of that. And I'll keep fighting.

I never want to go back to ordering from a catalog. Which is the internet without pages.

And I thanked him. And reminded him that stores are still important.

OP-- I just want to let you know I feel for you but you have to get a clue. I too remember when Sears sold everything. It was my first credit card, it was where my mom took me for school close, it was where I bought every tool for my first business. But that was long ago, I work for Sears now, after my retirement and I can say that this is not your dads or your Sears.

Back in the day you could go into a Sears and ask about a washer/dryer, mattress, TV etc and the salesperson would know everything about that item. Now you have 16 year old kids who have not been trained and Know nothing about what they are selling. All they know is to try to sell you a PA, extended warrenty or lease.

The emphasis has shifted from customer service to customer monitization. SHC does not care what you buy as long as you get credit card, a PA or extended warranty, credit card sign up or some sort of lease. I have been trained on getting the PA, warranty, lease etc at least three to four times a year. I have gone to meetings and training to better meet metrics and get constant emails to meet those metrics. But I have never had a meeting to better serve the customer or to make you happy.

The corporate think is that when you get the PA, warranty, Lease or credit card that will make you happy. In actuality, what is does is make money for whoever holds that part of the business --- see Eddie and others.

And then when I sell you whatever the delivery and pick-up (which is out of my hands and done by a third party) will disappoint you. Welcome to the new Sears, hope you enjoy.

"While I don't think Brick and Mortar will ever go completely away, shopping online isn't even in the top 10 on why SHC is on its last legs"

This this this.

And gee, wonder why people who work in a depressing environment, knowing they're going to lose their jobs, have a bad attitude? It's a puzzler

Yes! Folks this is the attitude we need around here, we are a friend to our members and they will keep coming back if we serve them.

P.S. Hopefully you also helped him out by signing him up for a sears charge to help his credit after the divorce! It's never too soon to start rebuilding after a divorce.

Funny thing is Lowe's bread and butter isn't even appliance sales and yet look at them compared to Sears were it literally drives their whole business.

You should tell the folks at Amazon that online sales don't work. I'm sure they will be scared of losing market share to Sears and their amazing brick and mortar stores.

I don't believe people are bitter I think like most of people on here it is hard to believe the ignorance of people who think this will turn around or that their store and company is on good standings. Take a look at how many people even cover the stock of such a "big" company. The biggest piece that senior leadership talk about is their asset rich portafolio but they no longer truly own many properties and the ones they do are quite literally worthless. Sears cannot sell any more of these "assets" because no one wants them. If you don't see these symptoms then just remember your store 2 years ago and go to work and really look at what's around. Associates are minimal, management is trimmed down so badly, and there is no product and if you happen to be in management do yourself a favor and log in to EIS. That red line that says EBITDA is what your store is losing to stay open. Wake up and realize your company is dead

Really didn't want love.

Just sick of the doom and gloom on this site.

Sometimes you have nice moments. When I get layed off on one of the fake speculative dates, I'll let you guys know too.

It hasn't happened yet. On the 23rd or the 13th btw.

Today, I felt like a happy post. Not a fake post about what might happen on Thursday.

But keep ragging. It makes you guys seem that much more bitter.

"you can get the things that Sears carries at way more reputable and better managed stores"

Which is why the K&D in KCD haven't been sold yet. Why should anyone purchase an appliance ( for its former name recognition ) that now has a valueless name associated with it

im sure you'd probably get more love if you posted that on pebble. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be a site that enjoys hearing about positive experiences within sears, as few and far between as they may be. It seems most of the people here are either fearing for, or have already lost their job. Either that or they're just watching the show.

Personally, I don't really have anything against sears even though working there was a pain.. anyway..I'm glad you had a positive experience. Good luck.

When I hear you sold him a dryer, I think over the next couple of weeks he is going to have delivery issues, then set up issues, then the dryer isn't going to work right. He will be back in the store begging for help. An exchange. Something. I hope it all happens in 30 days though or he is out of luck.

Only problem with your great idea is that you can get the things that Sears carries at way more reputable and better managed stores. Do some research on Lowe's appliance market share see if you still feel great about Sears. It's a matter of time buddy but I'm glad you are happy as you wait for bankruptcy to hit you in the face.

If your in my store we hardly have anything to sell anymore. All the vendors have stopped shipping and the things we are getting in are off brands or manufactuers I have never heard of. Agree, with the comment that the Sears website is wayyyyy expensive and the shipping is outrageous.

Keep doing that.

One day that is all you will have. Back to 1880.

The catalog without the pages.

And someone will say hmmmm, I think I will open a store where people can actually SEE the things before they buy them.

People buy things online and return them in the store all the time. They want a human experience at some point.

Sure, we do have that wonderful online shopping experience where everything is 2-4 times the cost of everywhere else on the internet. For s$&#s and giggles I did a side by side comparison. EVERYTHING I googled and clicked on with identical stock pictures was way more expensive on our site. I am taking charging $70 for an item that ran $25-40 elsewhere with shipping included. Nope, i will stick to my online elsewhere shopping which may or may not include Amazon.
