Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Business Model

So, health coaching is pretty new to the Health Insurance Industry.

Is it here to Stay?

No. My argument is No. Get the F*** out.

If leadership wants to refute my this, I would love to hear some genuine information.

I think all Health Insurance companies hire nurses to coach the super sick/expensive folks, so that is probably not going to change. Until the jobs are contracted out or shipped oversees.

What about the healthier folks? Lots of problems with profit here. 1. Humana is extremely aggressive and disorganized, so a lot of folks are turned off by excessive calls or lack of true help. 2. Even if we invest to get these folks healthy with behavioral change and preventative care, that investment might not pay out for years, and who knows if they will be with Humana. 3. Technology is going to keep creating efficiencies that eliminate staff. 4. This is the last generation that will interact with you on the phone, and they are getting seriously burnt on the amount of phone spam from Humana and others. 5. Behavioral change is hard, how much can a health coach actually help? 6. Outsourcing or contracting this work may be more profitable.

So, the Consultants will work the numbers, but I am not optomistic on the future of our profession for people who don't have liscenses.

We know that Humana is not going to try to salvage us by training us as pharmacy techs or grievance and appeals reps. They will just slash once the data people have enough evidence we are not profitable. We know we will not get any warning and we know that whatever data they share with us, it will not include the data and thought processes they use to make decisions,

We know things won't get better. We know we will be kept in the dark. We know that they will continue to whittle down associates. The whole program might get sent to Puerto Rico next month. Humana has zero concern for anything but profits. They talk the talk, but do not walk the walk.

Wait it out or don't, but have low expectations.

If Humana is not enrolling members in certain programs there is nothing else that needs to be said . The program is ending. If I'm missing something please let me know.

I don't want to make anyone stressed. I know that my supervisor has been super sh--ty to me since day 1 anytime I wanted to question anything. I think people should feel confident about questioning our program and wanting to know how it truly works. Before the layoffs, my coach acted like leadership was all-knowing all-powerful voice of wisdom. Clearly leadership is not. We are pawns that are wielded by some pretty crap chess players. I cope with it by engaging in dialogue here. I can't even tell you all the times and ways I have been actively silenced at Humana.

Another concerning observation is that other health insurance companies aren't hiring health coaches without liscenses that I have ever heard of.

I don't want to be an armchair CEO, but we all know we have incompentent leadership.

Humana Wellness programs operate in aggressive isolation. For too long they have promoted number happy yes men, who don't try to communicate with other departments or question whether the number goals make sense. Member are bombarded on all fronts by people just trying to make impressive number for their department. IHWA called one of my members 10 times in a week and four times in just one evening. Humana hired right up to the point of layoffs. Humana hires consultants and analysts to design programs, instead of talking to the people that actually do the job.

I love it when Humana is smart. Vitality is supersmart. I have not seen Humana at Home be smart. I want a leader that I respect and want to follow. I don't believe in anyone here.

I think looking at the bigger picture makes sense. Leadership has demonstrated over and over that they are not a reliable source of information on the future of our job. OP is is right. It is not doom and gloom, it is finding the patterns.

I would change my tune if patterns were different:

Here are some patterns to watch for that could restore our faith in Humana at Home as a Thriving enterprise: Relaxing on numbers, focus on quality. Standardized cost of living raises and performance raises. Evidence that our budget is improving (return of catered lunches, decent treasure chest awards, etc.). Training opportunities and sending associates to conferences. Growth. Leadership opportunities. Expansion of benefits like when they announced parental leave. No more layoffs. No more productivity increases. Collaboration accross departments, like a clear "Do Not Call"/Member Communications plan. Leaving early on Holidays.

The signs have been there that we are in a failing program for years. We have been cut and cut.

It is voluntary to visit this site. If you don't like what is posted don't come to this site. We have been through two rounds of layoffs and during each episode management told us not to worry layoffs were not possible then all of a sudden people were laid off. There is evidence to back up our thoughts. Again if you don't like what you read please don't come to this site

I agree. CMS requires certain Licenses to manage some of these members and that is the only reason why we are still here. I also suspect that the Humana at home associate roles HCM RN HCM SS and PHC Will be contracted out / eliminated soon

I can say I am so tired of all these doomsday comments. Not sure why some of you are still here and now you think you know so much about business. If you armchair CEOs are so brilliant, please by all means start your own company. The Chicken Little routine is getting hard to take. There are 9100 people in HAH. We are all in the same boat and living in fear of losing our jobs. Respectfully, people need to stop telling us they know what's going to happen, because you really dont. Our coaches don't have a clue and are in the dark too. So unless you heard it directly from ER, stop with the complaining, predicting what you don't have a clue about and looking for doom and gloom! It only heightens everyone's anxiety!
