So, health coaching is pretty new to the Health Insurance Industry.
Is it here to Stay?
No. My argument is No. Get the F*** out.
If leadership wants to refute my this, I would love to hear some genuine information.
I think all Health Insurance companies hire nurses to coach the super sick/expensive folks, so that is probably not going to change. Until the jobs are contracted out or shipped oversees.
What about the healthier folks? Lots of problems with profit here. 1. Humana is extremely aggressive and disorganized, so a lot of folks are turned off by excessive calls or lack of true help. 2. Even if we invest to get these folks healthy with behavioral change and preventative care, that investment might not pay out for years, and who knows if they will be with Humana. 3. Technology is going to keep creating efficiencies that eliminate staff. 4. This is the last generation that will interact with you on the phone, and they are getting seriously burnt on the amount of phone spam from Humana and others. 5. Behavioral change is hard, how much can a health coach actually help? 6. Outsourcing or contracting this work may be more profitable.
So, the Consultants will work the numbers, but I am not optomistic on the future of our profession for people who don't have liscenses.
We know that Humana is not going to try to salvage us by training us as pharmacy techs or grievance and appeals reps. They will just slash once the data people have enough evidence we are not profitable. We know we will not get any warning and we know that whatever data they share with us, it will not include the data and thought processes they use to make decisions,
We know things won't get better. We know we will be kept in the dark. We know that they will continue to whittle down associates. The whole program might get sent to Puerto Rico next month. Humana has zero concern for anything but profits. They talk the talk, but do not walk the walk.
Wait it out or don't, but have low expectations.
