Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

It's worse than stated in the papers

I'm in Cincinnati. Layoffs are coming. No packages will be given. Trust me, this situation is worse than what is stated in the papers.

Haven't you noticed you're not getting the same amount of product?

BT delivery dates are fewer and more spread out.

Hours decreased.

We are currently planning more store closings. Upwards of 150.

Store hours will be shortened.

Floor Associate comfort is of no matter to anyone beyond SMs. They do not care if you stay or not.

Run. Now. Get out.

If we're so big why do we have rotten health care plan?

It's ridicules to think no packages will be given if there are layoffs. We are too large of a company to act like that.

Dose anyone know when layoff notifications be issued out? Considering 60 day federal law notice of layoff warning requirement in some stats like California.

As stores are converted to open stock, women's shoes associates will be let go. There will be no packages, simply layoffs. Your job will be eliminated.

Not sure about other stores, but we have Sales Associate positions that we cannot fill-- no interviews, no interest at all. Let alone Sales Manager positions that have been open for months also with no applicants. You would think the company would want to keep "top talent" rather than have no one. Not sure what anyone in my district is thinking....

i agree!!! this post is like doom and gloom. you would think that company will out of business by the end of the year. i do think that things are not great, but we are not sears or jcpenny's.

i do believe that there are more cuts to come and more store closures. if you are a manager, look at rvp scorecard on insite and look at the numbers. macys has to do something to stop the bleeding...but where are they going to cut?? i assume hr will be hot soon and with the launching of salesforce, what will happen with hr services??

i think people should get out because the job is horrible. the turnover from sales associates to managers is incredible.

If you are really gloom and doom, you are seeing the glass as half full and half empty leaning more toward empty seeing we were won of the worst performers. It's almost over.

Listen I am the doom and gloom poster and I understand what you are saying but all of retail is hurting. I worked for Sears who did not give out raises in 9 years... I just think that Macys from a balance sheet (which is public) looks stronger then JCP and Sears. I would bet more on a buyout then BK. They had some looking when the stock fell to 28-30. At these levels you know someone is licking their lips...

It's going to get uglier around here than usual.we have older ideas for a new retail environment.many more stores need to close to keep operating costs down.we can't control foot traffic with stale merchandise that caters to less people.too little to late.

Is their any news on layoffs on the cooperate side?

I am on the inside. I know. You can stick your head in the sand all you want, but this company has been shuffling the deck chairs on the boat for several years. It's finally catching up. We may not yet be in Sears' situation, but we're damn close. And when it hits, which will be soon, you don't want to be around so I can say "I told you so".

BT to go lease within 18 months. Shoes to go self service by August. No need for half the associates in the building anymore, let alone the mgmt. You actually think we're going to continue employing all these people to do nothing? Layoffs and closures are coming. It's not going to be pretty.

Yea... Okay Mr. Doom and Gloom... they haven't even cut the dividend yet. This is extreme and I would encourage others to not fall into this. If you haven't noticed all of retail took a hit. JCP and Kohls both had weak quarters but Kohls had the best weak quarter. People are just not spending money as they once did in retail brick and mortar. Now I am sure they may have some store closings but it's not a Sears situation at this time. The company is still profitable and we had buyers looking at us before big T left. Hang in there and good luck at anywhere you decide to jump ship to. Just remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side

In many states, your vacation time, PTO, etc. doesn't matter. You can lose it, based on the law.

PR really can't get any worse, can it? Vendors are upset with slow payments, missed payments, renegotiations, etc. Tuxedo shop has been regarded as a disaster. Sports gear is just as bad.

Store closures could start quietly in Q3. Many stores with two doors will reduce to one. Department sizes reduced, with some offerings going away.

This is a slow death march. A buyer is actively being sought, but companies don't want to take on this financial disaster, whether or not it unlocks real estate.

What about vacation time and maternity time??? seems to me that would be a bad PR move on there part..

Is there any indication on when the next wave of closures will happen? I doubt they can wait until next year

The lack of product has grown more noticeable not only to employees but to customers as well. This past ODS, customers were making comments like "sure isn't busy for such a big sale!" Pretty bad if customers are noticing the lack of customers.
