Thread regarding Sears layoffs

About store managers being lazy...

What do they spend 8-10 hours doing locked away all day, never to be seen or heard from unless it's about credit or PA's? Why do they think they are too good to help out around the store in their downtime? Why do they ignore customers who insist on speaking with the store manager, and not a lead or asm? Why do they ignore pages or calls for help?

What's the point of having a store manager if they don't participate in the store's function beyond "performance discussions"?

We had 1 manager who didn't work Sundays or most days who was replaced by another manager who doesn't work Sundays or most days. Where do they find these people? One was friendlier and didn't do the Sears negative reinforcement but the newer one does.

What a shame for those with store managers who aren't working hard. I work in a store once a month, and the store manager there PLUS the ASM's are definitely hard workers. They have to be. I don't know how a store could run these days without an active "on the floor" store manager.

Our Sears SGM in our store probably tops you all, like most he is usless, can't ring, don't know how to even do a warranty exchange, talks to the ASM's like they are dirt, expects them to do his job while doing everything on their own plates, he leaves early ALOT for doctors appointments , but if one of the ASM need a day off he blows a gasket , he rarely works a sunday never does an early open and when he is scheduled a close he makes sure a ASM is also scheduled so he can sit in his office till close. Like the other Gm mentioned he only points out the negative things in the store, only his ideas are put into action even if they are completely ridiculous, he has a god complex. This is not sears of 20 years ago, all need to pitch in. He thows a fit if he has to talk to a member, he acts like he is above it. We all know its because he has no clue how to fix the problems so he pushes it onto any leader he can find the moment the call is over. Oh and dont even think he will take the mod phone, he is also above that, wont even carry the csm snic, he has way to much to do ..... just ask him ....

Some of you actually got a useful manger mine is probably the most useless of all. I have rarely seen him ring. He hides in his little office. He goes and bosses you around and loves it when he has something to point out on you, but never points out the positives of you. What makes it even worse he makes the most out of all the workers in the store and yet hes the most useless.

Not only that he doesnt even know what some procedures are. If theirs a problem he wont fix it he just doesnt know what hes doing. The saddest part is they will probably fire the most efficient ASM we got because shes next on the list that will most likely happen after this xmas.

Remember installing customer service kiosks in the stores and programming them ( as per directions) to have one of the buttons dial the managers office.

I wouldn't make it out of the store before the call would come in from the manager to eliminate the option.

I feel sorry for our manager. He is a great guy who has gotten the shaft. They have cut the hours of employees so he does not have enough people to properly run the store. They have eliminated the LP/AP and the ASM so he is alone in any type of training the employees or helping the employees. He is on a conference call every day for at least and hour to two hours. He has to take something called a "shopping trip" which is walking around the whole store 5 times a day and then report on what he found. He has to text or email the DM every hour with the PA, SYW and credit card app. numbers. He has to take phone calls, do schedules, talk to irrate customers and try to get trucks unloaded and the merchandise stocked and displayed. ANd that is only what I know of.

I can see the stress starting to take its toll on his health and marriage. This company will s--- the life out of you

Although it's possible many SHC managers are lazy, having been one myself I can tell you the front line employees often don't see the whole picture. Managers might expected to work 10+ hours a day, and come in on their days off. The phone calls are constant, with higher ups expecting updates on PA's and so forth. And the calls keep coming even during "off" time. Thanks to cell phones management is never really off duty. There is a never ending flood of paper to deal with. I would have much preferred to be on the floor "helping out" instead of dealing with BS.

I've been out of this situation for quite awhile, but with SHC going down the tubes, I expect the pressure on PA's, credit apps e.t.c.. can only have gotten worse.

It's true that A LOT of the store managers are incredibly lazy. It's ALSO true that they are required to do varying degrees of busy work and are subjected to intense micromanagement, depending on the DM. We have to text our DM every hour that we are open with an update on credit, PAs, and SYW. I can tell you that when you're MOD, there's very little chance of putting your hands on anything that resembles "work."

I know my Kmart store manager is not lazy. He unloads trucks by himself. Unfortunately he has 3 to 4 conference calls A DAY with our neurotic DM who rattles on bullying and belittling all the managers in her district for hours on end. He now has little time to help the store or do any kind of managing. It's pretty pathetic
