Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Please stop getting rid of experienced workers

They hire the people they can pay the least to, not the most qualified. College kids, h1b visas or 3rd party contract employees are the norm now here. It's almost rare to find someone who has been in the company longer than 25 years because of most of them have either left or been laid off due to their age. What you're left with are younger, inexperienced workers and temporary employees. Did I mention the benefits get worse each year? We don't even have dental insurance. Dental insurance. Honeywell can't afford to offer dental insurance. You gotta be kidding me.

Agreed, @OnKkWlN-izh. The company can't expect to move ahead while crippling its workforce, all for the sake of saving a few bucks. When will they realize that inexperienced workers that are cheaper right now actually cost Honeywell more in the long run?

@1etb I think that you have summed up the problem that Honeywell faces. Companies that have a strong culture will perform consistently because they have a solid blended workforce that can work together as older workers transition out they train the younger workers that can take on more responsibility and build on the success while bringing in new ideas and improving efficiency. Everyone is working towards a common goal. Honeywell is a dysfunctional business and culture and unless they can fix it quickly they will face some serious challenges. If DA really wants to become a leading software company, he is going to need to build a culture that will be able to compete for talent with software companies that are way ahead in creating the kind of culture needed to attract top talent.

Who's going to train them? The old bitter 'cling-ons' that never followed their processes in the first place? They're probably better off not getting "trained".

Agree - need young people. But how about some training? And why promote the young guys into supervisor, manager, project lead, Senior jobs when they are not qualified and can not perform well in those jobs yet. Or might not even want them. Would like to hear from someone who is new to the company, maybe a recent grad, who can say they are happy with the training they are getting. I was young once and can look back and say I got some pretty good training (15-20 years ago). The theory is with HOS working properly, anyone can do any job. Reality w/o training they can't or w/o experience just don't have the knowledge. I was once told to do less work from my manager because he was told by site leaders I was making some others look bad who were supposed to be doing the work; they had no idea how to do it and didn't seem to want me to train them. I saw young workers get promoted into jobs they really didn't want, with lots of responsibility, and yes a lot less pay. Then the have to beg the experienced guys for help. Not fair to them, me, the group the company. Honeywell just trying to save money

All those old-timers were once "inexperienced", as well! Let's not play the whiny baby game. There's nothing wrong with hiring young minds (and I say that not being one of them!).

Plenty of grey beard old timers still there sitting on the medical insurance taking 3 smoke breaks a day driving up us yonger guys with families and kids premiums. They should leave now while the stock price is higher and allow us all to save some money
