Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowe's is in a identity crisis

I've been reading things on this forum and the topix page, along w/ connections.

At Lowe's 15 years. 10 years at HD before that.

Seems like Lowe's is having a identity crisis.

They don't know if they want to appeal to Pro's, online shopping, install sales, delivery effieciency, wide aisles for women shoppers, family work atmosphere, etc.....they don't know if they want leads, downstocking, internet fulfillment, customer service, project selling, etc.

So, what do they do? Suffer at all the above. We're not great at any one thing any more, so we are average at best in all above mentioned.

Seems like they're just flinging ideas to the window and whatever ones stick, stay. If it doesn't work in 6-8 months, fling more stuff on the window and see.

It's like a blind butcher cutting fat. At times, they're bound to cut off good chunks of meat...then what? You don't really have something worth eating.

Evolve!

I've been through the same thing before at another company, although in Canada. It was drilled in your head you worry about you. Don't worry about what he's doing. You would actually get in trouble for telling on people. Keep your mouth shut and keep your head down. Just take it in the a-- and say "Thank you sir, may I have another." As long as the work got done, didn't matter who did it and who didn't. Just as long as they looked good. No matter how many times you turned them in for HR violations including physical assault (not me, my co-worker) they just ignored you. There was nothing you could do. Stand up for yourself and you paid the price.

That's messed up. Sounds like a specific store manager. Our store manager is great. Why does he allow that? Are they friends? Maybe they're related. I don't know. Just doesn't sound right.

Wasn't the DM restructure for more face time with the customer? I distinctly remember that. I remember the store manager running a cash register when that happened. That lasted 2 weeks......

Exactly. No accountability, No leaders. Just bosses. It's a friggin free for all. Let's me ask you this? Why is it that the PSI/PSE sales people don't have to wear vests? Delivery drivers do. Why do they get to show up when they want for as long as they want? Our PSI guy shows up and the first thing he does is eat breakfast of the sales floor! Are you kidding me? I'm talking to him and no vest, eating a peach, drinking a Starbucks! WTF......How does he not have to follow the rules? When they're at the store they do nothing but sit in the offices and act like their doing something. If they're so great at selling get on the damn floor and sell some sh--! Heaven forbid they break a nail or get dirt on their hands. Pull some orders, get on some power equipment and help out. Oh that's right, they don't need power equipment licenses. There would be enough help if you didn't have so many who think they're above hopping on an order picker and doing something. Leave that for the peons. I'm important. How can you be a receiving manager and no power equipment license? How the f--- is that fair? I feel like saying f--- it, I don't want my license anymore. It blows my mind. I've seen kindergarten classes wth more structure.......

It's do as I say not as I do mentality. Everyone looking at someone else to do the work and no accountability. Upper management should be ashamed.

Not so much an identity crisis but a leadership crisis.

10 years ago when I began my career with Lowe's a seasonal cashier the company had a clear direction. Managers walked the store checking that employees were working. Now they hide in the offices or in the back pretending to do work.

"Why didn't you make your credit goals, install goals or PSI leads?"

Answer: "because I am understaffed, you have given me IRP's, markdown reports, order management with staying on hold with a vendors checking on a PO that is past due or order management period, omni-channel phone call purchase over the phone because the majority of people here are older and don't use internet (waiting as a customer at customer service to get a cashier) then having to hand mail receipts because they don't have email, been a spotter for power equipment other departments because there isn't enough help. Waited 45 minutes for a spotter myself because there's not enough help, put away my returns, front cardboard boxes so they look pretty, put back (MULTIPLE TIMES) items that were left from customers that gave up waiting."

Ask me that one more time and I'll look at you and say "look down that way, all the way down to the other side of the store, go back down there because that's where ya lost your mind. Go pick it up and come back so we can talk"

FACT: THERE IS NO TIME TO SPEND WITH THE CUSTOMER WITH THE UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS AND WORKLOAD. THAT IS WHY.

They should do all the above. Picking just one thing is a sure way to be on your way to bankruptcy. Yeah let's just worry about wide aisles for women shoppers and leads and f--- the rest. That's smart. Sound like a problem with store level management in my opinion. Absolutely no leadership. Just a bunch a people who got a college degree and met the requirements for the job position. Needs to be more identifying people who can actually make a difference. You can be a boss and have respect because of who you are and how you treat people not just because your name tag says your in charge. Character. Gain the respect of the employees and they will follow you. They don't respect you, your gonna have a bad time. Some things just can't be taught in a classroom. You either have it or you don't. I work at Wal-Mart and it's the same way. Again, this is just my opinion.
