Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

New NA Org Rolling Out Today/Tomorrow...New Info.

I'm fascinated to hear how the new org will roll out today. Starting to hear information...

Hearing rumors (on good source)...that in the new brand org if you were a manager you will be doing the work of a specialist. You've basically been demoted.

There will also be divesting of a few categories (in terms of brand dollars)...surprising, b/c they they said a few were part of the bigger picture.

Sr. Directors who won't have time to actually influence any work.

Reminds me of 2009..."somethings are just going to have to not get done." Kinda tough when you got Type A personalities and your CFE depends on the quality of your work and no one wants to be the one to let things drop. Sounds like a maddening situation.

It also sounds like it's going to be quite an adjustment for those that remain in demanding roles to pick up the ball and run with it...despite the lack of time and help.

Fewer people doing more work for the same amount of money. Also, with less 'doers' and more 'idea' people...that were kept. It sounds like nike is sending the JV team out there to play against the State Champs. Not in all cases obviously...but when don't get the reps in practice...you're gonna fumble when the pressure is on.

Sorry. Wish we were there to help, this doesn't sound like a recipe for success.

But Nike is best when folks pull together...I'm not sure folks have it in them to keep giving more...maybe you'll get another pity bonus or nothing at all.

Sounds like Global Brand is the place to be less work and more bonus...just buy a good scarf and work on pegging your pants to fit in. I'm sure you can collect enough 'coolness fuel' over there to fuel the Nike Engine. smh

What about the Digital Brand VP S-xual Harrasser's BFF, the Indian who goes by the initials of the word "Versus". He's been written up MANY times by HR for inappropriate conduct and harrassment and STILL gets promoted. Must be nice to have friends in high places while the rest of us get the blame. Off to the unemployment line!

There's a lot that could be fixed on the digital and sports marketing teams. Those folks have to be the laziest and unhelpful group in the company. Sports Marketing in NA is coasting.

I heard that there is going to be a phase 3 of this in layoff in Q4 if numbers are close to being met.

The plan is to layoff people in a final sacrifice to Wall Street. They are going to layoff the HR people and communications org.

Best days in NA brand is when the VP empowered his team..(KD)...To be amazing rather than crush them with his Autisic Management Style and fear. Mr. Fuelband and his VP girlfriend...I wish I got laid off so I don't have to look at this smug robot everyday and be reminded that I need to be giving blowies to his majesty to get my idea approved by his 'design eye'. His controlling I need to approve every flucking hang tag and post card that goes out the door is wasting company time and money.

Send this Math-lete back to the gym locker he was stuffed into before he came to NIKE. Smart guy, but math doesn't get people excited about the brand. Emotions, feelings...passions...all the things he knows nothing about.

Bring back the fire. The empowerment. The freedom to know your consumer and go for it. JDI?

They are debanding across the enterprise. Already looking at new titles for tech. Directors are becoming managers. Some b---s--- about being aligned with the new way to do tech delivery.

Um, yes. What they said. I second calling out the Brand President's friend who regularly grosses out his female colleagues by hitting on them but just keeps on getting promoted. And DESPITE multiple complaints. Women have just told each other "don't bother, no one cares." Brilliant Nike. Super "innovative".

Sounds Exactly like 2009. I'm curious how many from brand were laid off? Doesn't seem like a lot. They ought to layoff the digital team imho. They haven't been doing sh-- for years. There's a few over there in NA who are poisoning the well. Unchecked and unmanaged. No accountability whatsoever. Get it together.

Sounds just like 2009. Too many Brand Manager. Title inflation and band level creep - not really a manager, actually specialists or individual contributors. Brand marketing jobs were reset at appropriate level back then. History repeats itself.
