Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Everything is over. It's maintenance only.

Much of the software has gone into maintenance only. About the only pieces of software that aren't maintenance only are database and Linux. The database will be shifted into cloud. If you want to run the Oracle database on-prem, be prepared to wait a very long time. A customer was trying to upgrade from 11.2 to 12.2 and hit a bug.

After months, there is no fix. Why? Because Oracle has laid off all the support people and development resources that know what is going on. The new hire sustaining people have no clue how to fix it.

Customers sit there and suffer. Even if they scream loud enough, does Oracle have the people to actually fix it? More and more customers are getting frustrated and all Oracle's answer is cloud cloud cloud. If you were running on the cloud you would get bugs fixed faster.

Unacceptable and all because the only thing MH knows how to do is cut cut cut. He doesn't care that customers actually need good support. That isn't his problem.

Yes, the CA parallels are obvious. Sadly, I don't think they will extend to management (see Wikipedia if you don't know).

It really is over. It's hard to get that, but it really, really, really is over.

No worries. Open source DB glad to take Oracle customers. There are quite a bit of good use cases to use Postgresql over highly expensive finger pointing Oracle Database. Oracle Support has been really sh--ty for the last decade. Every issue we have with them involve finger pointing to hardware vendors, middleware or virtualization and case closed. When come with evidence that bug was from Oracle, they will not escalate to development. The best trick ever, submitting one logs after another. Entire 3 months submitting logs with no progress since day one. I do Oracle, SQL Server, Postgresql, IBM DB2DB for years and some MySQL and Mongo. In the past 4-5, there has been a trend Oracle Database losing their market share to SQL Server and a lot to Postgresql.

5 gold stars for the Computer Associates parallel - I've spent 4 years with CA and 5 years with Oracle - this is so true

Oracle is the new Computer Associates. It's no longer a software development company but a holding company that's run like a hedge fund.
