Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How do you have jobs posted?

How does Chevron have jobs posted and you are still laying off? Take the people that you are laying off and place them into a training program and teach them a new skill. I know that not everyone that has been let go is not worthless. I can name about 10 of them in our group that would have taken some of these positions. I have never seen anything like this. I would rather have someone move into these positions that are Chevron Way employees and trainable. If you put new people in it is going to take a arm and a leg to pay for these people on the outside. Let's just keep draining the money and pay the CEO what he is not "wirth". Are they just trying to play stupid....... Yes that was intended to be funny

6rfd. You are an exception at chevron and have been way to sheltered to the 5 course meal managers running the company

Talk all you want to, 5pup. I've been at Chevron for 34 years and I'm still here at age 59. Survived the last two years of layoffs and I'm a highly paid and productive technical career ladder employee, not a manager. There are many of us so-dinosaurs still around. Who else is going to mentor and train all these millennials if not us? The older employees my age and some a few years younger were laid off if they didn't keep up with the times, stayed behind their desks too much or were perceived to be not productive.

Laying off high-salaried people who are no longer peak performers and replacing them with younger lower salary hires is far more cost-effective than retraining burnt out people. At Chevron, you get in, max out your salary, save a ton, and get the heck out. If you are lucky and can tolerate it, you may end up with a full retirement.

There were enough people who EOI's, I know because I was told by one of the managers. They did not have to layoff that many people because all the older people retired. It was a total sham and was illegal. The layoffs in MCBU was ran by biasness and not by the same process in global. Right now they are fighting lawsuits so to save their a@@es, they are doing it quietly and under the amount to report to the Texas Workforce Commission. The guy that played out his lay off on reddit really made an impact and was seen by a lot of people in the industry. Yes, all the other major players are laying off, but Chevron got the bad rap, because of the way they handled it. There were people who had over spent their projects that were still given jobs and people that were under budget were let go because of biasness. These people are still there, when I visit the Houston office they all still have jobs. Unbelievable, but it is who you know or who you F@@K.

To the op, Chevron is just a piece of sh@t, they got rid of all the workers that made too much money to replace them with a bunch of idiots. Now the good people that are left are training them to do their job and when they make too much then they will shaft them. This is the Chevron Way. Chevron bit themselves off more than they could chew. Taxes in Australia, over spent projects, killed people and think they have done a great job. The layoffs need to based on performance not on biasness. The only issue with JW is the board should go with him. They voted to get all of the spending through. Mike Wirth will be the same it is still red kool aid. JW made over a Billion dollars sitting in his seat. Just totally worthless. Deadwood the whole bunch of them. I saw one post that stated that psg 27 and above should be replaced that would be great. They are all accountable. This will go down in Chevron history as the most unmanaged, most spending and the most illiterate bunch of thieves. For the great good right, now for their good. Look at the stock options and how much all of them are making. It is public knowledge. For JW to say oil would have stayed at 100.00, we saw what happened to that.

Well , I just found out today that I get to keep my job, at least for now. Sorry about the rant, because I just happen to know dozens of college kids that I mentor and tutor daily and know plenty about them. Sure, some may wander off the beaten path but most would not consider this as a reliable source for any info. I speak to them all the time and give them advice. The Internet is a wealth of information. This just does not happen to be one of the places to seek it, and college kids know better, believe me.

I was definitely butthurt thinking about losing my job and almost as pathetically out of touch as a loser leftist nutjob inbred simpleton pseudo-elitist. But I have come to. I found out that I am not deadwood, just a bit rotten on the edges. Thanks for putting up with me.

I wonder why the post below is so angry that college people would actually read this site. Wow are you going to be next to be laid off, if the kid got into Exxon so be it. Proud of you and yes before i would make a decision on any company I would research all these companies. I think the poster thinks your not smart. The person below is just "B@@thurt because he know he is probably next on the chopping block. Wow so much built up anger. Maybe you should go to the second floor to medical.

@1xer, We're all so sorry that you were laid off from Chevron, snoflake and are such a pathetic butthurt loser that you have to make up fake stories about you being a recent grad and getting hired on at XOM to try in vain to prove an invalid point.

The real point is that no one cares about you and your pathetic predicament and crying on here "waah waah I hope someone from college reads this blog" like a computer illiterate (this isn't a blog) isn't helping you or your pathetic unemployed or soon to be unemployed situation.

Get a life. College kids don't care about the laid off losers such as yourself. They also have enough sense if reading this pathetic loser drivel( and they normally wouldn't) to take it with a grain of salt. I worked at XOM also. Their situation is even worse. You're pathetic. Get a clue.

I am so tired of people assuming that the word has not gotten around the college campus's or recent graduates. I am a recent graduate and went to Exxon. I had a chance to apply to Chevron, Marathon and Dow. Do you think we are stupid or out of touch? I am going to work for the best company. All companies layoff we know that but I think Chevron is getting more of a bad rap. Plus look at the financials. It says it all!!!!

1gvl, No, don't be so dramatic, enough with the hyperbole. The poster below was simply making a comment which is analogous to if all you have are your work friends and go to work to find friends you likely don't have any friends at all. It's not exactly a foreign concept, it's commonly put forth and I agree with him/her. At work you have coworkers, contacts, colleagues, etc. Every now and then you meet a friend or two. More likely than not the people at work are only superficial acquaintances and everyone is out for themselves, that's not a secret, you guys are just learning that? O&G, engineering, operations, construction, etc., is a competitive business and always has been. If you happen to have a very good friend or two at the place you work, more likely than not you knew them before, from somewhere else. That's not the same as your everyday work buddies and doesn't mean you don't like them, don't take it the wrong way.

"friendships at chevron are superficial" Seriously? Welcome to corporate America. Many of the comments I read on this site are indicative of people leading a very sheltered work life, having worked no where other than Chevron and having a mindset that reflects being indoctrinated exclusively by Chevron dogma and influences. Like how new-hires or interns would think. Friendships at Chevron are no more "superficial" than anywhere else. Many of you have a lot to learn about about the work and office/offshore/onshore environment, wherever it may be- period. There's nothing special or exclusive about Chevron and fake friends and a back-stabbing environment. But you closed-minded individuals keep thinking that, or get out and work in the real world and see what it's like. Chevron is but a tiny microcosm of corporate America. You guys have no idea how bad it really can get.

1dfh, This is not a blog. And college graduates know better than taking a website like this seriously, if they even would be reading a site like this, which is improbable, but even then it would be only to laugh at the people here who did not make the cut.

How about friendships at chevron are superficial. This is a sick company full of greed and is a model example how to drive a great business into mediocracy. You people are miserable and would cut your own bloods throat to save your job. College graduates. Please read this blog. Stay away from this company. There are much better places to work that pay better and provide a much better quality of life

Your friends at work would backstab you quick as a flash if there's some advantage to gain. Friendships in this business are mostly superficial.

Survival of the fittest by all means, including trickery, backstabbing and deceitfulness. The name of this game is winning over everything. And don't righteous about it. Your fellow co-worker will not be paying your mortgage and bills when you lose your job. They will forget your name as soon as they see you leave the building for the last time.

Hey I don't think there's anything wrong with backstabbing your fellow workers. It's the way it is nowadays so you may as well adopt the culture. It's rather fun.

Let's also not forget the unemployment ratings that Chevron now has to pay due to lay off after lay off.

MCBU

ETC

DWEP

GOM

SJV

Expats

So where is that hidden fact and how much do we have to pay now. Chevron just keeps digging itself a hole good ridden's JW, the ultimate failure of Chevron. You failed, period. All the board members you failed. All PSG 27 and above you failed. You are worthless deadwood s---ing Chevron dry. We need a new breath of fresh air. Replace them all. How do we get this on the ballot since we are shareholders? That is my question. I am really serious. I need the answer. I go into work everyday and feel like I am a target. Where can I take this target off my back and put it on their's? Worthless pieces of S@@T. I hope you all choke on your bonus's. Yes, I am pissed and tired of living like this, while they eat their steak, caviar and of course play at pebble beach golf course. I work my a@@ off everyday for pennies to your millions. I don't think they expected all of their employees to feel like this. Backstabbing each other to get ahead. Wow, I think I feel better now that I have typed and posted this. Great therapy session.
