Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I HATED working for nike - yes hated!

I didn't go looking for nike, they recruited me. In all they spent almost $ 150,000 in hiring me and laying me off. In my 5 years there I was not able to change the direction of this ill fated voyage once!

My bosses constantly changed. Almost half the time I didn't have a boss. My reviews were dismal because I wasn't aligned with the right position and boss. I once asked the question "Why did you even bother to hire me if you won't let me do my job" and was told they had a slot to fill and if they didn't hire they would lose that position.

At one point this year I didn't come to work for 2 weeks. No one noticed. I would typically arrive around 9 and leave around 3 with a lunch in between. I'm not lazy - I love to work hard and take pride in it. Unfortunately, there are only so many days one can sit in an office with nothing to do before you give up.

In all I figure nike spent a million dollars on me and got nothing in return. Again, I'm not lazy. The atmosphere is almost cult like and toxic with those damn maxims and their related awards plus CFE's. They couldn't be any further from approaching their maxims if they tried. Most of my bosses were idiots and would fall in line behind any corporate idea - good or bad.

When I started I invested heavily with my own money in the stock. I continued to do so until last year thinking my situation wasn't representative of the company as a whole. Now I'm rethinking that position and I no longer have any money invested in nike stock.

Despite all the bragging about their supply chain expertise, from my lens it appeared to be completely f'd. Hell I couldn't even get an $ 100 order with multiple items in one shipment from the same DC. This happened on every order I placed! I've heard nothing but horror stories about inventory management and shipping.

The greater Portland area has no respect for nike any more. They view nike the same as intel - rudderless. Good luck getting quality talent now. You better outsource some more.

Rant over.

Hate to say it as I don't like to see anyone loose their jobs, but Nike should give up trying to dabble in logistics. 3PL out their supply chain - in fact from the rumours I hear that's exactly what they plan to do. Starting with the Amazon experiment.

To the “shareholder”, you can kiss my a--.

Nike decided to dump a lot of people that put their heart and soul into that company and they in return got sh-- on by a rudderless company that is dying on the vine as Amazon and others peck away at market share.

I sold my stock and I could not be happier.

Sounds familiar. SO MANY jobs with no responsibilities or direction, or duplicating other jobs.....just so VPs can build a bigger fiefdom.

@PgQQL5v-1pmd - you obviously can read but didn't seem to comprehend the message. By all means invest everything you have in Nike stock. Take a 2nd on your home to finance it. Use the kids college fund!

Your logic seems to state that nike is a great company because they can afford to waste a million dollars and are then hero's when they cut back.

I suspect you're a nike employee who went back twice for the kool aid.

Wow, it's like this article is written about me...similar situation! I too have sold all Nike stock and am looking to leave and find a better managed company with true leadership and vision. I completely blame the lack of leadership and their laid back leadership philosophy on why the company is where it is at the last 2 to 3 years.

Hate to say it as I don't like to see anyone loose their jobs, but Nike should give up trying to dabble in logistics. 3PL out their supply chain - in fact from the rumours I hear that's exactly what they plan to do. Starting with the Amazon experiment.

Update your resume folks - your best days at Nike are behind you.

Look at how they do their facilities. It's how they make their hiring decisions too. A lot of flash and hubris in the people they bring on.

The op seems proud to have been a mooch. That's sad.

As a shareholder this post makes me feel FANTASTIC! Stock went up over 150% while they paid people like the OP ~$150k a year for 5 years to do nothing... and Nike finally got smart enough to eliminate that expense. Sounds like Nike it got it right this time. Future is bright. I'm not selling!
