"why are we sending all GSM to a meeting that requires overnight stay at a hotel?"

Yeah, that is a pretty frivolous tradition for a company in this situation. With all the corporate emphasis on technology/internet, they ought to just have the managers watch streaming video of the presentations.

Instill fear that stores are closing. Your company is going out of business. Only reason uncle Eddie hasn't filed for BK yet is he is still making money off of this slow death spiral. Nobody wants the last few ghettos that they own no one wants kenmore or diehard. Heck he is making money Evert time the rent is paid to Sertiage. You all should at the very least get your resumes ready. I know pensions stopped being a accumulated years ago. There is life after sears.

@ivut Maybe it is now getting to the point where it will start to turn around. Unfortunately we had too many stores before for the current state of business. Why does everyone always assume everything is only going to be bad in the future?

Gdm has made it almost impossible to want to work for the company. Stores are being told it’s there fault if the store closes. My team an I did not put the company in the state it’s in. I protect my people an I do not appreciate a GDM cling in an going after my mangers or leads or hourly associate ‘s Also if we’re in the trouble we’re. In why are we sending all GSM to a meeting that requires overnight stay at a hotel?

Everything that some of the posters below said is accurate. If you hate your current job so much you should leave. No one is ordering, forcing or demanding that you stay. At the end of the day - you make the choice as to whether to stay at your current employer. You make the choice to find a new job with more opportunities and benefits. You make the choice as to finding a job that is more fulfilling personally and professionally. You decide how to handle your future no one else does.

I don’t get it. No one forces you to stay at Sears. Yes, it s---s but at the end of the day it’s a job. If you are so unhappy why not just quit. If you have been looking for a while now then maybe it’s time for you to re-evaluate your approach.

We all know Sears is doing bad. I get job offers all the time but I chose to stay because this job is very convienient for me. I don’t want to lose it nor do I want my co-workers to be jobless. I think it’s pretty selfish to wish that stores close. Unhappy then leave.

@aiv and @bmx. There is more in the works than you know. I realize Sears is very shaky right now, but it has been the end for about 12 years now. If you dont like your job, I get it. Not all of us are in the same position. Is my job fun? No. Is it that bad? No. So I keep going as as I said the end has been coming for 12 years.

That is in large part the problem with so many posters. They have adopted a fatalistic outlook as to their future and accept no responsibility for what happens in their lives. They know their lives would be better if they were working elsewhere, but they are paralyzed into inaction by some flaw in their psychological make up. How else do you explain so many posters who are clearly miserable in their positions, yet lack the will to make a change. At the same time these posters pray that their store closes, so that they are forced into change. This robs them of the opportunity to take control of their destiny, is dysfunctional in the extreme, and is often the result of a sad family dynamic. Break the cycle, take back your dignity, and take a proactive approach to improving your lives.

Losing a job at Sears may actually be good for you and me. It would get me off my butt and get a job at a better place.

It is not so much that people want to lose their jobs, per se. The conditions working there are bad and they continually get worse. While it is always hotly debated on here when the company will fold, we do know that at some point it will likely go down. People losing their jobs now can still expect up to 8 weeks of severance, and then up to 26 weeks of unemployment, which will buy them enough time to seriously look for a new job. Those who remain until the end will likely be cut off from the severance pay (and possibly even banked vacation pay, if you are saving it). I do agree with several of the other posts though - if it has become too unbearable, find another job and just leave.

@bbo do you think you are going to be working for sears forever? This is the end. You are going to lose your job very very soon. We all are!

@bbo i dont want to lose my job but in case you didn't know let me explain this to you, the company is in very big trouble and we are all going to lose our jobs! Either I lose it this round of store closings or the next which are in February. I don't want to lose my job but if I had my choice I don't want to go through a holiday.
