Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

People no longer take vz seriously after they spent money on that huffington post trashbloid.

nobody was laid off for the holidays -- people are being paid out until end of the year

verizon does it a lot nicer than other companies

Sorry @OP, with 25 million Americans out of work and ,most think Verizon has over-paid employees with excellent health benefits, They DO NOT CARE about Verizon Layoffs.

I remember shortly after the merger than formed VZ, in the e-commerce group, a senior consultant was explaining to us that the game had changed. In the past, if someone had a bad time with Bell Atlantic/GTE, they would tell their friends and family, and a few people might get annoyed and cancel, but it wasn't a huge problem. But now, with the World Wide Web (gasp) a single disgruntled customer could complain and thousands, or tens of thousands (and now millions) would see it and.....

What was missing from the analysis was how many posts of the form X SUX!!!! there would be for all X, and people stop paying attention. Same with this proposal. Lots of companies lay people off. If people even bothered to read it, the major reaction might be "If this will help keep my Verizon bill down, that's fine"

That will not work ,the public doesn't care if you guys got laid off after 15 -20 years and you were making 100k plus slaming people with vz products,services,etc. nobody cares,just like when your wireless part of vz didnt care about the wireline people.people are going to say just move on.look at all the retail stores not just wireless ,the retail industry,many are losing there jobs all over the u.s.the problem is the greedy corporation in this country ,cause they dont care about their employees..just about how many more billion can we s--- out of the public,same goes for every industry,medical,automotive,construction,big phama,etec,etc, in the u.s,so its not only you guys,and all these over priced colleges where as these kid cannot even decet jobs and benefts when they get out,,this govt is a whole miss mash,and the public gets screwed.i feel sad for all of you that lost your jobs,this country is in a sad state...just my op

Just take the money and move on. They have floors full of lawyers. Unless their service goes to hell the public don't care. They are in term contracts.

I believe they fear layoff information getting out because this company, and many others seem to forget that we are in the business of providing a service and only concern themselves with wallstreet, now to me, if a company continually lays off its' employees that would tell me that the company isn't doing well which would hit the stock. I have never seen the agreement you need to sign in order to collect your severance but I know it is to protect them, if you don't sign it, you do not get your severance. And, severance is not a gift, its' part of an agreement the signature is your part, the severance it their part. So be very careful about what you do and how you do it.

All they have to do is become a joke on the talk show circuit and then it's over. Isn't happening though because Verizon still is a very good company with a very good product. And they're just not that unique in their personnel practices. Lost my job at another company through something like this years ago. It just happens when companies have to toe a line dictated by the stock market.

I'm not saying I know the reason, but corporations do fear this. it isn't because anyone cares enough to do anything, it's simply the information getting out. Maybe it has to do with their stock and investors, or maybe the competition finding out, I dont know, but I know they care...alot.

Nobody outside of Verizon with the exception of a handful of politicians have any interest. And those politicians aren't very powerful. No one cares that they took errr jerbs.
