Sam’s Club can’t compare to Costco

Sam’s club is more like Jc Penny when they tried to change to the more modern, digital one .. what happened to them will be the same as what happens to Sam’s club .

Members will continue to get irritated about the change , they will hate paying money to get a shopping cart, a majority hate self checkout, they already hate the prices and they will go up even more due to the increased shrink. Business members already feel that they are not important anymore. Our target member don’t have smart phones and aren’t tech type people.

Sam’s club is destined to fail as it can’t compare to Costco. Never could and never will . They are far superior. They are better merchants, better operators, better marketers and most of all they have a better brand .

Costco has no self check outs , no scan n go but they do pay better , have more managers and supervisors, they have more associates , they have higher sales , higher profits , higher renewal rates , higher executive members .. they are just better

The funniest part is they always advertise at the bottom of the Sam’s club page on here ..

You don't see people running around in there Pj's at Costco ..... we do ..... lol . Members have lost all respect for us. What a shame

I agree with the poster who says we cater to a dif clientele ... thats where we made the mistake years ago .... when we changed from higher to middle income to lower income members . It all started when we excepted .... welfare, goverment money . We lost our mojo and can not get it back. Costco has it going on . I love going into Costco, you feel like a million bucks , with all the hoyty toytys around you.

Yes, and Costco notoriously sets up shop in the 'richer' neighborhoods so yes, I would expect them to be better overall because they cater to a different class of clientele!

Sam's Club is the Walmart of membership clubs and tries to stay relevant while saving people money. If you like Costco so much, switch to them.

I believe we are not better then Costco, thought we where better then Bjs, but I wonder now. I'm in a market where there where 2 Sam's, 2 BJs, 1 Costco. Now after Sam's closed 63 clubs our market now contains to 2 less Sam's clubs that says a lot.

JCP problem was they tried to change their pricing scheme and people would juts rather have coupons/weird sales over straight forward pricing. Very poor choice to make a comparison to.

Sam's isn't perfect but it isn't all as terrible as described. Who care what Costco doesn't do and what Sam's does do. Sam's atleast is trying to have something different and not copying. It's okay for them to focus on digital and technology. Costco not having a true digital push isn't necessarily in their favor in the long run. Obviously a very bias post.

Also on the whole note of copying... That's what retailer do. Basically the hunger games. They're all working to put each other out of business.

Walmart/Target/Kmart/Fred Meyer

Sears/JCP/Khols/Nordstrom/Macy's/Dillard's/Belk

Kroger/Publix/Albertson's/Safeway

Dollar General/Family Dollar

Aldi/Lidl

Why can’t we just copy them .. why do always think we can do something better.

1.They have one auditor but we think we can do better and have none

  1. They have a salaried manager over cafe only but we think a hourly lead split between two areas is better

  2. They 2 exit door greeters we think we can do it with one

  3. They have 20 in Hms and meat and we think 1 in hms and 4 are all u need

The list continues to go on. They have built their brand year after year and stuck with it . They dont try and reinvent themselves year after year .

You don’t build a brand by doing some of the stupid sh-- that we do. It starts with the front door .The membership card is the brand and we devalued it once we stopped asking for it.

Just copy them and have the balls to stay with it . Do not knee jerk and reduce payroll consistently..
