Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Receiving clerks

Just curious if anyone has started this one or two hours in the office daily or been told when it will start? I was told that next week I will be doing other jobs in the club and one or two hours in the office . They need to tell us what is going to happen other than "your job is probably going to be eliminated".

They can't get rid of the clerk position. That would be chaos.

Lol I’m sure other people planned a bit better for this than a few of us here. If you were paying attention last year this was foretold to happen. Same old story... clerk justifies their work and comes up with all kinds of examples.

Omg! Another with no clue. Not that I owe such an ignorant post a response but I'll just enlighten you and anyone else who thinks all the information is on a TC70 or just a phone call away. I know more than most managers. I'm not going to sit and list everything because I know and that's all that matters. When they call me at home to ask me what account something should go in or how to research something or who to call, etc., etc., etc. I have saved our club thousands of dollars by researching companies that have charged us for work they didn't do. That ultimately adds to your bonus so your welcome. You think everything is a phone call away???? Lmao! First you have to find out who you need to call and then the real kicker, get someone to answer you. They definitely will find out how much we know/do. But whatever, I just want what's owed to me after all my years of service, hard work and dedication so I can move on to something better like everyone else who's left this place. Remember, when it's your turn, is nothing personal. 😁

Wow is right. Apparently your not reading comments. Just another one on here running your mouth when you obviously have no clue. NO ONE said our work was cut down to nothing a year ago. It's been the last couple weeks since we got rid of the file cabinets, etc. Be thankful they're letting us come in and work????? Can't wait until something like this happens to you, and it will. Let's see how thankful you are. People like you need to stay off this thread. You're just trying to stir thinks up by adding useless information. My guess is your probably not an hourly.

All the knowledge clerks can pull up from a desk or call from a phone is mobile now. I understand pride in the job, but know your worth is irrelevant because we have phones and TC70 that provide most of the same info a clerk can but not quite as quickly... yet. Just make sure we stop justifying sitting in an office and get on board with everyone doing their job and then some out of their area. That is the expectation now. If you are a clerk that spends more than 2 hours a day in the office, you need to start transitioning out of the office before a huge wake up call ensues. It is a difficult transition no doubt.

They have been cutting things out of it for a year. They didn't cut it to nothing hardly left to do until this week. Fyi

That's exactly what we are saying with the new Changes they made we need maybe 10 hours a week for our receiving duties. They are trying to run it with less payroll. I get it. I even understand it. It's a business they need to make money. Just tell us your cutting the position so we can make a decision to stay or go. They have left us to come in every day and wonder is today the day. We have to go to managers every day so what do you want me to do today? It's frustrating just do it so we can move on.

No one is even talking about clerks being overpaid here. Things are changing. Plain and simple. To survive they have to change things. Be thankful they are letting you come in everyday and work instead of cutting you off now. And you are basically admitting your workload was cut down to nothing a year ago?? Wow.

Don't judge all receiving clerks by the few that expect a raise to work somewhere else. I don't know who your managers are but in my club we have always helped in other departments on the floor and in fresh when needed.

I am so sick of hearing how high paid invoice clerks are. Those making over 20 have been there for years, most over 25 years I would guess. I guess they should not have accepted their raises! Until recently the job was not easy. There was so much to do that it was impossible to finish on some days. Problems with the system which meant dealing with network support, scheduling, helping on dock especially during the holidays, DVDs and books to count , paying club invoices, clearing the journal, cleaning etc etc. Yes we do deserve to know what is going to happen since the stress of not knowing has been going on for more than a year. Maybe those of you in other areas should refuse your raises if you plan on keeping your job for 20 or more years!

Please they have been taking the receiving clerk job a little at a time for a year and now almost all that was left has been taken and still have not been told anything. NO other position has just had the work slashed and slashed with no information. STOP

Everyone that has lost a position has been told. no other associates have had there job taken but not officially taken. So have a little understanding for associates that just want someone to tell them what is going on.

Well I think you are the exception to what has been on here posting. I get that you want to know what is going on but some of the comments on here are truly disrespectful to the people who have lost their positions already.

Your club manager only gets a day or two heads up when this stuff goes down so blaming them is not the answer. Maybe the higher ups haven’t figured it out yet and maybe that’s why they haven’t told you. You will get the 60 days, same as everyone else. They aren’t just picking on this position. ALL of our jobs are in danger. Take your severance (when it’s offered) and get out before it’s too late.

I don't think I deserve better, or a raise, etc. I just feel after almost 29 years of dedicated service I deserve a little more respect than I'm getting. Our position has been threatened to be eliminated for over,a year now. Went they eliminated, audit and the cash office, they went in and told them and gave them 60 days. Not us. We have to pack up paperwork, move out file cabinets, start working in other areas, etc. None if which I mind. What I think is ridiculous is that they still aren't telling us anything. Everyone is asking questions and we just have to say we don't know. I'm not sure why everyone is hating on invoice clerks. Maybe a couple have made some dumb remarks bit nevertheless, no one , regardless what department you are in, should be treated with such disregard. All I want is to be told what is, going on. I'm certainly not stupid, I can assume what's going on but I want them to quit waiting around and tell so my life isn't on hold. Ex: I put on vacation time for July and was told, "Why bother?" "I probably won't be there anyway.

Just a question, why do you clerks think you are special and deserve something other than the other areas got when it comes to this? They heard the rumors too, and waited to find out there fate just like you all are doing. For some reason though with the clerks it’s different. Talk of lawyers, raises, clubs imploding without you. Just curious, why do you all have that mentality?

When they told our Audit team that their jobs were eliminated, they all worked in whatever dept had openings available. T/L worked a couple of weeks in Bakery then in Cafe. This was done for the 60 or less days until it was time for them to make a decision wether to stay or take their severance. They received their same pay as when they worked in Audit for the 60 days T/L left and others stayed in lower pay positions cause they couldn’t afford to leave.. The CM was decent about the elimination. It wasn’t his decision nor fault that Audit was no longer. Be patient cause 60 days in the majority of depts is not an insult, but rather to be looked at as helping the depts/co-workers that need help. The big money that the clerks make should show the other associates that you are an associate like they are and not better rather just had the opportunity to work (for many yrs) in a higher paying position.

The clerks that are demanding a raise. I believe you are already a team lead level so you already make team lead pay which was a level 7 or I guess a level C so anything they ask you to do you are already being paid more than floor associates. Cant blame anyone now for not wanting to go help any fresh department and you may legally have the right to refuse since they are so skilled and special they get more money.

Even with all the changes there is still over 8 hours of work to do in receiving. I am with the other clerks that posted, not stepping outside the office. There is work to be done. You want me in bakery to help give me the fresh bonuses they are handing out.

Do a Sam's cheer.....hilarious. The day of reckoning will come back around on sams leadership. I heard from a friend that management and corporate laugh at hourlies willing to cheer while having our clubs closed and layoffs or forced out without the dignity or option of severance. ThIs is truly a cruel company. Best of luck to all and be positive about a new start.

So much for dignity and respect for the individual. We had a visit from Giselle and h.o. croanies. Sickening to watch new club manager and replacement managers s--- them and smile at the m ruling by fear and intimidation then hop on the company jet and fly away while giving us the middle finger. What a bunch of phonies, karma is a bi---. Just remember, this is a nation under GOD not walmart.

I cleared out the office 2 or 3 weeks ago when they gave us the top 50 shrink items to audit. Ive been half the time with audits and the other 2 or 3 hours in receiving. Keying, fixing errors, ordering, receiving, helping fresh, etc, then just bundling up the paperwork and boxing it up.

Our clerk threw away file cabinets yesterday and took 10 minutes of filing away each day; but definitely not paperless. New job description should be out next week, Store Whipping Post. Managers' threatened not to say anything. H.O. Jetsetters hate receiving office and crews so all receiving jobs changing except here in Massachusetts. Law sais we have to be treated like human beings! BTW; more clubs closing 4th quarter so forget all this union talk and let's all do a frickin Sam's cheer!

To the poster who said it doesn’t say anything other than clerk duties in their job description......better pull the one you signed and read it again. Every single job description in Sam’s club says at the end something along the lines of “and any other duties you are asked to do”. Y’all aren’t brain surgeons. They can ask you to clean the bathrooms if they wish.

Oh my! You clerks all need to do some homework before you go making demands!! Not all, but most states are employment at will. That means they can let you go for anything or nothing at all! Making demands of raises for going to a lower paying position or contacting lawyers is not going to benefit you! And I’m sure you all know that the days of them just giving raises because they want to are gone! Everything goes through career preference and is calculated there. They don’t even have an option to give you a raise! You all are jumping to conclusions. You have no idea what they are going to do and your poor managers don’t either most likely! Be patient. Stop taking everything so personally. Business is business. Does it s---? Of course it does! But you are not the only ones this is happening to nor are you any better than anyone that it is or will happen to! That is why people are bashing on you! Yep, you know lots! Nope, you aren’t the only ones! Do your job until they tell you different and most likely they will find you something decent. Keep up the drama and they are going to take the opportunity to get you and your ridiculousness gone!! Jeez!!

I beg to differ. There is a big difference between what they are doing to the invoice clerks. Audit and cash office got the option of taking another position or a buy out. If they are just going to work us wherever they need us and not even give us a job title than we do have some recourse. I mean maybe they are going to offer us an option but I don't know what they are waiting on and it's a pretty crappy thing to do. The majority of us have dedicated 20+ years to this company to this company and to treat us like we are just worthless pieces of crap is b.s. We don't deserve this.

Sounds like you all need legal advice . They are trying to change your position right out from underneath you so they aren't liable to offer severance . You keep your job title but change job duties. They want you all to quit . Thats some piece of work.

You spoke to an attorney? Really? I hope you’re not paying him. There is nothing he can do unless you have a discrimination case. Nothing different about eliminating your position than audit and cash office eliminations (lay offs). Your company is not the only one doing this and it is legal.

We were told Giselle didn't want so many long termers hanging out in back room. Our manager said clerk works in receiving office a couple of hours a day and team lead only works on dock when needed by dock associate. No one sits around "waiting" for trucks and fed ex etc . You are required to go to salesfloor during down time.

Hopefully they won't make the same mistake they made with eliminating the audit team. We all see what happened with that decision. Inventories are horrible, not to mention audits given to team leads that have no idea what they are doing. This is what will happen with receiving errors that will not be caught, and will only add to inventory disasters. I think they realized they lost a lot of good people who are missed by club managers. Not to mention all the severance that was paid out plus the unemployment benefits. I think they will now try to force us to quit so they don't have to pay us.

The way they are doing this , is so wrong . Waiting for all the clerks to quit so they don’t have to pay them severance . Just tell them it’s over , pay them and get on with it . Have some respect for these dedicateded people

To the person who commented before me,Thank-you. For all those that are generalizing this position, your just plain ignorant. I do ALOT more than just work in the office. I work on the dock checking in trucks, vendors, UPS,Federal Express, etc. I help in claims, help make bales, help with audit issues, order pallet trailers, create a bill of ladings for bales, pay bills, key credits, fresh trucks, etc., pay expenses schedule appointments, key bottle deposits, order supplies, write up and key M.t.r.'s, key out magazines, check off on-hand changes and receiving report, keep my area clean as well as lots if other things. I've also worked in numerous areas in the club when needed. So don't say that I sit on my fat butt in the receiving office. I've been a huge asset to this company as all my reviews confirm. I'm not mad at anyone that my job is going away. I'm just upset by the way we are being treated. I haven't done anything wrong. I've dedicated many, many years to this company. They owe me a little bit of respect and we should be told what is going on. Why is it a secret? And no, I won't just quit because they also owe me, at the very least, their measly little buy out. So I'll do whatever I need to do until they cut me loose. Then I will celebrate the fact that I'm free from all the stress and humiliation. I'll be just fine because I didn't just sit on my butt and rely on this job. I earned an associates degree and I'm licensed in another field so I'll be great. I just feel bad for all my other co-workers. I see more cuts, more stress, more work coming your way. Oh, and btw, there are LOTS of union companies. See, that's what is stupid. All these people making comments need to do your research instead of spending all your time on hear saying things when toy don't have a clue what you're talking about. Save the drama for facebook.

I guess our club is different from most. Our clerk and receiving lead make a good team, there is no dock associate they both work the dock, help in claims, drop for members and vendors and share each others work. It is hard to hear all the anger towards clerks when I see how hard ours works. Who knows what is next for each of you, I hope the best for all of you!

As a clerk, I'm already out on the floor all day. Only in the office about 2 or 3 hours in the morning. However, what about the team lead. Her work load is half as well, and isn't needed 8 hours in the back. She sits half her.shify waiting for fed ex, or waiting for ups. Shouldn't she be out on the floor as well? Or leave one back there full time.
