Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CSOC is dead. Long live CSOC!

Seems like CSOC is over. The anonymous feedback site is over. The GSA is gone.

I never understood CSOC anyhow. Nobody did. Why combine Capital Stewardship, investing, with Organizational Capability, staffing? What could be more obscure? Invented by PRC boffins with their vast spreadsheets. Nobody could work out how it related to CPDEP or that idiotic Spider.

The feedback tool was eventually just used to send anonymous complaints to management or troll colleagues. In the worst cases managers used it to anonymously and passive aggressively degrade their direct reports as this was the only way they could meet their metrics for Feedback Count.

The Gold Standard Assessment was rigged. SBUs would send the correct answers to all the questions to predesignated survey respondents. We even had sessions to rehearse the right answers because the questions were so idiotic nobody knew how to answer. We were told “if in doubt, answer Always”.

I’m glad Simplicity has killed all this off and PRC layoffs sent those responsible packing.

What was your experience?

I am in neither construction nor project planning and had to recertify earlier this year. The company should do a better job focusing on those that would benefit from CSOC instead of making everyone suffer.

It’s not dead. It exists, but definitely is not being used correctly or thoroughly where it can benefit a major capital project. It’s an abject waste of time and efficiency to apply CSOC to anything less than “major” or complicated projects. But CSOC recertification is required for engineers with construction and project-planning job requirements because the company has a lot of effort and expense put into this capital stewardship standard. The question is When will it become a required skill to apply again? When and where is the company ever going to invest in something as major as Gorgon and Wheatstone? Maybe way down the road after the trained engineers have retired or when the training becoming nothing more than a learned skill, not a practiced one.

Apparently CSOC is not dead. I had to do the re-certification this month despite being a complete waste of time.

I have over 30 years of oilfield diving, project and operations leadership, so, of course the 'Mean Girls' under Lew Dennis, at EMC Covington, gave me a 2-minus to lay me off, so they could keep a buddy who's only experience was a few years as an SSI safety rep and a volunteer firefighter in a podunk swamp-town. Lew was laid off as well, so nothing about Chevron makes any sense to me.

Plausible deniability? Do you live in your own dream world? Get serious, else don’t expect the company to spell everything out for you after you’re canned.

Because if I ask my supervisor I no longer have plausible deniability that I didn’t realize I needed to go through the recertification. Do we have to spell everything out for the slow crowd?

Really @nivo? You received a notification to reverting? Why not ask your supervisor about it rather than ask the question here? Troll.

I got a notification that I am due up for recertification by the end of the year. Is CSOC really dead or is this a cruel rumor? I don’t want to waste hours on something that brings no value to start with but especially if it’s going to be axed in the end,

There you go. CSOC + Gorgon/Wheatstone = Failure. That’s why it’s gone.

Mid career hire and I refused to subject myself to that nonsense. Glad it’s gone - these are jobless people that have to justify their existence that come up with these crap . How did it all work out for you @ Gorgon and ALNG?

What else confuses everyone and adds no value but we put up with today? What will we look back on tomorrow and wonder why we did it?

My experience is hey even batman don't like this crap but everybody just keeps the mouth shut and just gets on with it. Now get back to work and stop wasting company time.

Why stop with CSOC? Why not ditch CPDEP for PMBOK so we can talk to others across industry and all the contractors know what our expectations really are? Then we can have even more PRC types that make up our own stuff that is not simple ROM’d.
