Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Permira is the problem

I'm an xNDS and xCisco employee. I think Abe is a great technologist, businessman and manager, who would indeed like to bring some cool stuff to the market. And he's far better than the raft of incompetents who have managed the xNDS business so poorly over the last six years.

But we need to remember that Abe's marching orders will (once again) be issued by Permira. And Permira is a private equity firm whose job is to make lots of money as quickly as possible. Just like they did with NDS the first time around.

If you want to put on the rose-colored glasses, you would do well by reading the Cisco CEO's statement: "We are proud of our innovation in video and the customer momentum that the Service Provider Video group has built". That's a thinly veiled way to spin the loss of around $4B dollars with very little to show for it. (Then again, Chuck can blame his predecessor for the acquisition.)

Original poster is @SXMo2co-1tju, well said.

Heard today that the new company name for SPVSS as a standalone company will be "Triton".

Should you believe the L&T guys are needed to run a business that Permira needs to sell in 2 years for 3 times 1bn$ ? A equity firm never commits such mistakes. With trust on Ab to take the harness, the investment time is not more than 2 yrs as interpreted by many in the stock market bell ringing moment. Why so much of gossip here instead of finding your worthiness in other horizons

@T09KPBj-3tew hearing that made be glad I got the bullet in 2014. It was a good chance to break free from Cisco incompetence and mismanagement. Unless someone can say L&T turned out to be great employers - I somehow doubt it.

"Larsen & Toubro " is an Indian based people warehouse. Cisco contracted them out to manage the existing xNDS customers that were not going to join the Infinite Video bandwagon. Those who were asked to go to "Larsen & Toubro " had no choice. It was either take the job or quit and for some that mean no severance. Still up in the air if Permira will keep "Larsen & Toubro " or buy back the contract

Getting back to where they were pre-Cisco you also need to think about the shift in the market. Although things like Sky-Q has some great features, the world has moved on. Today you can get a cheaper experience with no subscription and a $50 streaming stick.

Of course Permira will flip NDS again. But to do that with profit they have to put the company back in their feet. So their interest and the employees' are aligned at this point

I am a Cisco employee (with many years of service) who just found out I will become a Permira employee on or before October 1st. Do I have any reason to be positive or will I be laid off with little severance a few months after the transfer. Also I see references to "Larsen & Toubro ". On Cisco's new Transition web site, this company is never mentioned. What is the story with that ?

There is an huge question mark around the question: Is NDS is going to make it again after the advanture with Cisco?

The answer to it is not depend on the management this time but on the engineering spirit.

These engineers are asking the question: "are we replacing bot managers that see only $ by those who has shown already that they see only $$$$$?"

Only one man can answer this question and it is the man that got somehow a second chance to fix the shame that occurred in his shift.
