Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Leave or stop complaining!

First, I am a realist.

Dell has more good employees (including management) than bad just like most other companies. The pay is fair, work there for a few years and try to leave, in this market you will probably take a pay cut. With no college degree I started in 1997 and now I make 100K. No, the company isn't as fun as the late 90's during the tech explosion but I bet that's not uncommon with other companies. I've worked in a few departments that required Xanax for while but I moved departments and my life improved. If you hate where you are, move to another org. No, it's not easy but I've been able to move from tech support, PG, marketing, channel sales and direct sales. Mentor and improve your skillset and you can definitely move departments. (not with the attitude that some of you have). I've been laid off and I also took the 2014 buyout but I came back in 2015 and it's been great. I'm happy now and will stay but I will leave and find another company before I go on complain on this site.

Like the OP I started in tech in 1997. I made $55k that year. I changed companies a few times and survived or avoided many layoffs. My W2 was $350k last year with stock and bonus and I’m not in management. It pays to look out for yourself. Being loyal and keeping your head down and working hard means that you will be treated like a dog.

I created this thread and wanted to provide and update, I got promoted yesterday with a 15% raise. Have to correct attitude, work hard, 1-1’s with other managers in the org and it works. I’m not an a-- kisser, I actually beat out the a-- kisser. Do your job, don’t complain and it’s worked for me, I’ve been there a long time and no, it isn’t as good pre-1999 but it’s still good. At least it is for e and most of those in my org.

I worked for Dell for 13 years. The environment became more and more toxic. Direct manager intimidated their employees. I brought it up to her manager. Come to find out Mr. Austin Rodeo was encouraging the salsa style of management. I discussed it with HR and realized HR was not going to do anything because of the director, Mr Austin Rodeo. I left and now making 75% more money. I wake up each morning grateful of my new opportunity and not having to work in a toxic workplace. I would advise my worst enemy to not work there. No one should have to work in a low morale, back stabbing, toxic environment that is losing money with no answer in sight. No one should sell their soul to the devil for a paycheck.

Well Dell is almost dead, Any time it may file for Bankruptcy, MD is trying to squeezing each and every bit of possibilities to pay the interest for the debt, is there any coincidence for raising 500M$ with piovotel IPO?

MD is desperate, you can see his frustrations and anger in some of the messages here. But for me, it is

Vive la Dell.

Very well said, the billion dollar question is why MD is not taking action on management and bad people. If government stops spending money then Dell Emc Storage will go bankrupt.

I'm a realist too and I spent the better part of the last decade @ Dell before leaving voluntarily for a better position with better pay at a competitor. Fact is management is now rife with people that aren't qualified to be in their position, many simply because they are related to someone that holds a senior management job elsewhere in the company. Doesn't matter how incompetent they are or how badly they screw up, they will never be fired due to their connections to higher ups. Worst case they get reassigned to some other job where they can't do as much damage but even that is rare. Simply put either no one cares or if directly affected, they're too scared of job loss to do anything to try and change the situation.

MD one of the most influential people on the planet??? What universe do you Iive in? Beyond the world of Dell technologies and it's acquisitions most people don't give a S**t about MD and what he says or does. What important events has he influenced the outcome of or intervened in to make a difference? None that I can recall, and certainly have never heard his name related to anything that did not directly benefit himself or the company.

Now that MD is more focused on enlarging his personal fortune and keeping his investment partners happy, the incompetent middle management is accelerating the rate at which they are alienating customers with sales rep churn and through hard sell tactics. No one is left that is trying to develop products that will still be relevant as the current shift in datacenter architecture matures, all the experienced and innovative engineers are long gone by now. Bottom line, by the time someone capable of changing the course the ship is sailing notices a major realignment is needed it will likely be too late to do much beyond breakup the company and sell off pieces that are still worth something.

Glad I'm out of there and won't be art of the collateral damage when it happens.

@T8OJti0-1mfy the problem is that this site does not encourage constructive criticism, just a platform to moan and whinge about this boss or that, or how crap MD is (like he gives a sh--, nor would I). And BTW, he's not crap, he's one of the most influential people on this planet and for good reason. So, just wind your necks in, read the top post, and take control of your lives. If your boss is a tyrant (that's not MD's fault) set him/her up (recordings, written logs etc) get him/her fired and move on. Just don't succumb to feeding your fears on a site like this. To finish, your opinion is YOUR opinion, NO ONE CARES.

fyi when we finally move on and settled at a different place we won't give a sh-- or kill our braincells to give honest feedback and constructive suggestions to Dell. Those energy will be channelled to the new place.
