Another huge loss. Sea world is laying off salary workers. And anyone who had been an employee for a lobg time because they make more than a few dollars over minimum wage. Basically sea world is cheaping out on its own people and blaming the public. The San Diego park was already working with a skeleton crew and then they cut off more of our crew. We have officially LOST LIMBS! Employees are p-ss-d, sad, angry, ashamed, scared, and just plain tired of constantly battling the madness thrown at us by corporate. A layoff every year is NOT good for company morale!! We feel ashamed of this company. Betrayed by corporate, mourning the sea world that cared about its people and embarrassed that we have to clean up this companies messes and make sacrifices for a company that just keeps taking from us! TAKING: job opportunities for advancement, raises that used to happen seasonally, park perks, coworkers/work family, job security, our voices, our faith in the company havingour best interest at heart, stealing our time and paying us barely enough to eat, taking our reputation as a premier marine biology destination, taking any hope of a full time position with benefits and burning it to the ground, our loyalty and misusing it, taking the few CEO and leaders we trust and throwing them out on the street with a severance package.
Only so many jobs can be cut. Only so many workloads can be handed down and "redistributed". We are TIRED sea world. You all sit in your plush offices with air conditioning- crunching numbers on how much employees get paid, they are just another number to you. Easily replaceable, right? A machine can do their job, right? A machine can easily have a personal relationship with a sea lion, a beluga whale or other employees! No. But a machine can easily crunch numbers and fire people. How about the company fires some of those useless overpaid corporate keyboard tappers instead of people with heart.
It's not over. There's still another quarter left in the year and Sea world has been known to fire people during Christmas time.
I have worked at both Florida and San Diego parks and wish that this company would actually listen to employees. There are so many people who feel like they have nowhere to turn after these last layoffs. Any faith that was left in sea world is fading fast. It seems like this company is masochistic - and enjoys sabotaging itself.
Everyone is tired of running scared.
