Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Good advice

The layoffs are an ongoing process within AIG. They have (upper management) been doing this now for many years. You need to always be ready as if it is your last day at AIG. Let go of the stress, it does not help.

If you find the stress unbearable, you need to make life changes since stress will ultimately cause you health issues and show up in your personal interactions with co-workers. Switch jobs, sell items that you cannot afford, find a second source of income, etc.

I wish you well.

There are still a lot of RIF's that are going to take place. It's only just begun

Amen! I'm a former AIG-er too and there is definitely better opportunities, challenges and co-workers outside of that dysfunctional cesspool! They should definitely cut areas in VALIC, Life, Travel and Corporate though! Plenty of excessive spending in Travel, and, areas of major inefficiencies in Corporate, VALIC, and Life!

As a former AIG-er, this is true. It has been a culture of RIF's since 2008. No surprises anymore. The only ones who stress at this point are hanging on to the glory days of MRG and are hoping for that big turn around to restore things as they were. That is not going to happen. Not trying to be cruel or mean, just honest. Different company now. Understand that. That being said, there are many other companies out there that are much nicer places to work, have a better environment, etc. Start the process and begin to look around. You will be surprised.
