To those of you that have been caught up in this round of 'Workforce Reductions', I feel your pain. I really do. I was one of the unfortunate individuals that was cut in one of the last rounds. For me, it ultimately ended up being the best thing. The environment at UP the past few years has gotten toxic. It got to the point that employees were no longer thought of as people. Culture changed. It changed to a 'Not my problem' - as it seemed nobody wanted to be on the hook for any major decisions. Realighments, change how it's done and then redo it 6 months later. It was obvious there were problems from the top down, but nothing happened to the top - only those on the 'down' side of that.
While I did thoroughly enjoy what I did, there was still an underlying sentiment of fear and loathing in what I was doing, what everyone was doing. I only realized once I was out and landed a much better position where I'm respected, treated like a human, and truly felt part of a team culture that I realized how bad it was.
All I can say is push through. Press on. Don't let this define you. If you keep at it, you will eventually come out on top - I'm a firm believer and also a classic example.
With you all and supporting those that were cut today!!!
