Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

I feel for you

To those of you that have been caught up in this round of 'Workforce Reductions', I feel your pain. I really do. I was one of the unfortunate individuals that was cut in one of the last rounds. For me, it ultimately ended up being the best thing. The environment at UP the past few years has gotten toxic. It got to the point that employees were no longer thought of as people. Culture changed. It changed to a 'Not my problem' - as it seemed nobody wanted to be on the hook for any major decisions. Realighments, change how it's done and then redo it 6 months later. It was obvious there were problems from the top down, but nothing happened to the top - only those on the 'down' side of that.

While I did thoroughly enjoy what I did, there was still an underlying sentiment of fear and loathing in what I was doing, what everyone was doing. I only realized once I was out and landed a much better position where I'm respected, treated like a human, and truly felt part of a team culture that I realized how bad it was.

All I can say is push through. Press on. Don't let this define you. If you keep at it, you will eventually come out on top - I'm a firm believer and also a classic example.

With you all and supporting those that were cut today!!!

The package is slightly different than last time. For some is slightly less, for me it was quite a bit more! Just depends on level and years of service. I consider this to be a sign that I needed some change in my life. Thanks for helping me recognize that UP!

I am just happy that the waiting is over. I dont have to wait out another entire year just waiting and suffering for this to happen to me. Just an FYI for those going behind me, the severance is the same as last time.

I have experienced lost employment by corporate downsizing through mergers, acquisitions, and corporate bankruptcy. Each time it happened I found a better job and acquired new skills and gained a new and better perspective on life.

UPRR is not pro-employee. Keep your head up. Uncover that passion for life that has been suffocated these past years and thank God for the new opportunity to grow.

Believe and it will happen. My thoughts are with you.

I have been part of the 750 cut last year. I am very happy that I got out at that time, and I am much happier now after landing on my feet within reasonable time. No more fear every day to get cut during the next round in this toxic environment. For everyone let go, don't worry too much, you will raise again. You will realize that you are actually much better off once the next cut happens...

I wish you good luck.

I lost my job about 2 years ago! I suffered through the pain, disappointment, embarrassment and loss of my up family.i have a better work life balance now and many more days with the people I love. I landed on my feet and realize now that UP has become like an abusive marriage. You don’t know how bad it is until you leave. I have a lot of distrust of others in the workplace and scar tissue. It is truly a toxic environment. You will rise again. Just breathe!

My position at UPRR was eliminated after 36 years of dedication. It was toxic even then. People stabbing each other in the back to get ahead. It was really tough because once you turn 50, they are out to get you, regardless how well you have done. I took me several years to get over it, but if you don't let it get the best of you, you will learn learn a totally new way of life. I am now doing something I thought I could never accomplish. Stick to your guns ..
