I'm a Manufacturing Engineer in Warren and new to this website. Please excuse me if I'm rehashing previous threads. I didn't review the older threads. My thoughts on how things have progressed and are progressing--please comment with your thoughts:
-
The EGMs submitted an employee-by-employee rank of their teams to HR in October
-
Using payroll salary data, benefit data, CAP reviews, seniority, age, etc; HR is selecting it's ideal candidates for involuntary separation.
(Now this is where it gets dicey and I believe delays are occurring)
-
HR has returned its list of layoff names back to the Senior Managers and Directors of each group.
-
I believe the EGMs have not seen an official, formal list of names but I don't believe that the Directors and Senior Managers haven't exposed the lists to them informally and confidentially to ask "Hey, is it a mistake to layoff this person?"
-
I don't know if the Directors have any "trump" cards but I assume the logistical nightmare of all this going down at once and EGMs/Directors arguing with HR over certain employees has caused a significant delay in the process. How does HR know how critical Employee X is to the group?
Over the years, I have seen so many undeserving people get promoted. In my own group, I see worthless employees protected by our EGM for some reason. Will those worthless employees get axed or will HR choose the ones who make a few dollars more in salary? HR has no clue other than a simple few words in their work history: "Meets Expectations", "Exceeds Expectations", or "Does not Meet Expectations". I'm sure the worthless have all been entered as "Meets" because our EGM has no clue. Nothing will surprise me in the next few weeks but you can bet that women and minorities will be protected. I'm not racist or s-xist, Just stating the truth.
This will be an interesting few weeks for all of us and I pray that all my colleagues, friends, and their families land on their feet sooner than later--no matter what happens. GM has been good to all of us for a lot of years but the way this is being handled is inhumane with zero empathy for what they have been putting us all through for months now--including the Holidays. God Bless you all.
