Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Jim Vena you're an id--t

Why the hell are you trying to use Southwest Airlines as a productivity example? Yes airlines can "turn" a plane in 22 minutes.

1 they can use concurrent servicing.

2 They bring everything to the plane not the other way around

3 Facilities are maintained

4 Equipment is maintained

The fact you are so stupid as to try to compare the 2 shows you were the perfect hire for UP. You cant have stupid without up

Here's a question. Is Jimbo even a U.S. citizen? I mean he spent the last 40 years a CN employee. Is here on a work visa?

There are valid reasons for deferred maintenance once in a while. What's happening now is not valid reasoning -- it's pure profit motive (Greed). It's purposely putting the condition of our (expensive) equipment in jeopardy due to shortsighted greed. People out in the field who rely on this equipment are put in harms way as the equipment WILL fail or perform well below expectations resulting in accidents, breakdowns, and chaos. It's not ignorance. It's a decision by those few at the top to take wealth over the health of hard working employees and the general health of this company and it's equipment. Well, it will all come full circle one day.

The biggest difference here is that Southwest Airlines actually cares for their employees. Employees know they’re cared about. Employees in turn want to go the extra mile.

Union Pacific could careless about employees. Employees know it. Employees get an FTX or in trouble for going the extra mile.

Delta airlines could’ve easily shut their doors in the mid 80’s and post 9/11. Delta cares for their employees and offered early retirement packages and leave off absence for 6 months without losing benefits options. Over all delta didn’t lay off 1 employee during hard times.

Today delta is the number one airline in 6 categories including best airline to work for.

Delta and Southwest makes it a priority that employees are a huge part of their success and rewards them very well. U.P could learn so much from them. Instead they turn profits to pure greed.

Is he referencing crew change and inferring this is shop time?

Crew change and the servicing is quick and easy but we are short handed as it is. Unfortunately we keep pushing off work to the next crew change point until all the sh*tters are full and the fuel tanks are empty so we need full servicing top to bottom, this takes longer.

This might would work if he could fix the parts issues, instead of just ordering parts and waiting hours for them to be delivered. Also fix all the parts that keep going backorder. Oh also fix the tool lose issue, hard to turn wrenches when there is no tools. He should know this since he was a carman, but i guess all those millions he makes he forgets where he comes from. You want a successful railroad it starts with quality locomotives that will be maintained and ran.

I would guess there is just a little more oversight in the airline industry not well we are going to run it even though it's broke

And all of their airplanes are 737s...a big part of the problem in servicing and repairing locomotives quickly is the huge variety of models and options purchased and modified over the last 25 years.
