Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

MySource Social WFH Thread

For those that haven't been fortunate enough to get laid off, check out Monique's responses from months ago in the WFH thread. Her replies are turning out to be nothing but lip service considering managers are being told to deny everyone. She was also recently tagged in the thread by someone asking her a question and she has yet to pop in and respond.

Also, to pour salt in the wound, they had an announcement on the main page reminding people to fill out the form. What a joke.

If you are not still following the MSS WFH thread, multiple people have posted that their manager has not restored their WFH schedule as they were supposed to do per Chuck's e-mail.

Chuck of course is a horrible CEO, but the incompetence doesn't stop at the top of the management chain. My id--t manager saw Chuck's e-mail and had to run it by the "big boss" for how he should handle it. What are you a dumb @ss? The e=mail was pretty damn simple to comprehend.

Thankfully his boss is not as id--tic as he is and mine was restored, but clearly there are still others with incompetent managers still waiting on approval of what was already approved by Chuck.

Monique is counting her signing bonus money at Amex. And that's how you do it on Wall Street.

I've pressed pause on My Exulted WFH Edict. However, I retain the right to continue the layoffs once the press goes away. Love, Charlie

Espresso your ideas to the coffee machine...it may lead to this all out technology innovation revolution Charlie is looking for....BRILLIANT!

I come into an empty office as my team is scattered all over the world so I can collaborate with the coffee machine. Waste of time and fuel commuting for no reason other than Charlie wants it that way!

This thread makes me ill. Happily "departed," I am saddened to learn of the loss of WFH. NOT PRODUCTIVE?!? I logged on earlier and logged off later than when I commuted. Worked all day long, calls, meetings, LESS INTERRUPTIONS, etc., than in-office. Y'all are doomed. But I'm encouraged to see people are already looking forward to how things will change once Charlie (and Monique) is gone. I count the minutes with you.

If you are WFH more than 1-2 days, your job could be done part time by someone who would come to office 3 or 4 days per week to WORK.

HOW it will impact employees? How about all the money stolen from BNYM from the abuse of people working from home who also do personal things all day long? Like taking your phone or laptop everywhere like to the gym, to your hair and nail appointments, to your lunch date, taking your kids somewhere, driving to a vacation destination on company time, not being in the office means someone else is picking up your slack when you are not there physically.

BNYM is no doubt reading all these and knows damn well WFH costs the company millions in productivity and in paying people for FT jobs that could fall under PT status.

WFH is STEALING money from the company. Unless you can prove you are not doing anything personal while you are WFH, you are full of BS. Even the people who come to the office every day do a small amount of personal things on company time. WFH people abuse the company by doing all sorts of personal things on company time.

Everyone know working from home is not really working. You reply to a few emails, may a conf call or two. Its not working.

And I for one am glad to see it being abolished.

If you work from home, your job is not that crucial and you will be laid off.

I agree with writing letters to the board, actually I had been thinking about that as well. Just a question for this forum ... how does one do that? Any particular mailing or email address?

It’s Charlie. His management style is the definition of how to get rid of great talent. The board has to act before its to late. Please everyone, write the board members it’s the only chance we have to save our great company. WRITE THE BOARD MEMBERS!!! They must hear our voices! #noconfidenceinscharf

All you need to do is take a look at how Visa is slowly fixing all of the morale problems Charlie left behind when he departed. They have reinstated WFH to what it was before he came on and tore it up like he is doing to us.

You are so full of sh*t about WFH being a contradiction. Join this century won't you.

As for CEO's not getting rid of something without cause, that is probably true in most cases. However, decisions from the top are not always made based on sound logic or evidence. They are made out of personal opinion & preferences. That is the case here. Charlie doesn't like the idea of people working from home despite the ample amount of evidence that it is a positive.

WFH is a contradiction. Home is for relaxing not for work unless you own your own business. Anyone who does WFH knows what I mean. The reversal of WFH is simply 2 things. 1) self selection = allows for those who can't won't don't want to give up WFH to drop out of BNY at zero cost to BNY and 2) major reorg needs remaining people to be face to face to reconnect and reallocate job responsibilities of those who droppepd or were let go. Now I don't think CEO woke up and said no more WFH just because. In addition to 1 and 2 there must be clear evidence that WFH is not working as no CEO would dare stop the gravy train if WFH was stellar. This reorg is being done very methodically, read the JPM and VISA stints. There is a lot of experience. We'll have to wait for long term outcome but so far shareholders say me like it.

I will second that WRONG to the person stating misinformation. My manager did approval to my request. The push back is coming from the top.

To the person saying "misinformation" - Wrong -

wfh once a week and definitely twice is not allowed. Charlie dictated down to his directs what was accepted. Entire departments, like mine were told what was allowed. Charlie veto'd the original plan and said what he would permit.

I know whole groups such as CSD (or whatever they are now called) that worked from home regularly for 10+ years, are now only permitted to on an adhoc basis.

I have yet to come across a department allowing more than 2 wfh per month.

Take a look in mytime..... there is now a code for tracking wfh.

This is misinformation. The application for WFH status is simply to give them numbers on who is WFH. Adhoc arrangements, say 1 day per week, will still be allowed. Its the immediate manager who will approve any WFH people.

A credible source said 5,000 WFH requests were filed and so far only 100 were approved.

The WFH program was probably seriously abused IMHO. I observed gold bricks not working when they were in the office - why would they work at home? As far as people having long commutes: why did they take the job in the first place if they knew the commute was untenable?

It’s not that they didn’t give any thought to impact. THEY DON’T CARE. Pure and simple. Employees are nothing and should just be thankful to still have a job for however long it lasts.

the senior management have made a decision without any thought to how it will impact employees- its quite ridiculous given the scattering of teams across locations throughout the world - most of the collaboration is through email or skype so doesn't matter where you sit

They are shutting down WFH big time. I feel badly for people with long commutes who have been doing WFH over the years with no loss of productivity - BNY doesn’t care and is now forcing you back into the office.

Hopefully customers will be encouraged to use the feedback button in emails to take the company's survey and comment that they have noticed difficulties this year with trying to schedule meetings and BNYM employee availability.

I will no longer be able to avail myself to clients during off hours or during lunch hours. That was a trade off I was willing to accommodate when I worked for a company that afforded me work from home so that I could balance out those situations.

Agreed. The published policy and the actual policy are two different things. and management clearly has honesty issues. No transparency, no trust. It is awful.
