Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Salary Adjustments

To the managers not taking a moral stance against the wrong doings, it makes you compulsory and just less of a decent person, in my opinion.

You haven't refused to follow direction to purposely manufacture situations that disparage employee reputations resulting in employees being documented with less desirable performance evaluation appraisals and rated below expectations as justification for layoff.

Next, you didn't speak out vocally against Charlie's elimination of work and life balance.

Now, you are again silent. You are not warning employees that within the next year they will be told job grades are being 'reevaluated' and will be given the choice to reapply. They will be pitched this as a potentiality good thing that could or could not lead to an increase. That will be a total lie. Truth is if the employee does not reapply, they will be threatened by their manager that they may be laid off. DO NOT REAPPLY! The decision whether or not to lay you off will be based completely on your salary. If you don't reapply and they choose to lay you off you will get the severance (SUB) package. If you reapply, they will offer you a much lower salary that they have 'reevaluated ' the job grade to be and then when you refuse to accept the pay cut, it is a voluntary termination (because you applied for the job) and you will not receive any severance (SUB) pay or even unemployment insurance.

Curious about expected timing for the reapplication process mentioned above. Original poster, have any more details on that? Thanks.

Where are you (original poster) getting this from? Salary readjustments? Reapplying? How does that even make sense? I’d really like to know if you heard that from a reliable source or are just trying to make nervous folk feel worse?

You have the option to respond to your reviews so when you get BE at year end put your response in black and white like they do. You should not fear voicing your opinion; they don't. They want you to fear them. Fight back.

I wont reapply for sure. They already rated me BE and I dont need them to cut my salary 40% to meet what they can fill my position with. They can let me go. I dont want the job that bad where I'm working 30% harder on short staff and told overtime needs approval now. Like I really want it. I have no time to eat even. Good luck with your outsourcing. Ill find something else.

United States has new proposed overtime changes out there, so all companies are going to do this. Might want to check out the proposed updates at DOL overtime changes

I had a word with my manager, after my year end rating was BE.

Told him, if its the same rating mid year 2019, I am leaving.

I think he got the message. It does not matter to me... its his choice now.

“maybe you ought to read over the terms of the employer-employee agreement you signed, for which I presume you receive large amounts of cash consideration involving contractual duties of loyalty, agency, representation and such before spouting on about what's ethically and morally wrong.”

Txv, for 99% there was no employment contract to sign and the offer read “employment is at will and either party can terminate at any time”. No signature requested or signed.

Got it now?

I am a unit manager and I do not agree with any of the changes that are being made . but like another commenter said, I have a family to support and I can't just up and leave the job. It's not about having morals or not having morals, it's about survival. Trust me, I think the forced ranking system is ridiculous. The company is going downhill in many ways. Do not demonize all managers! We're not all the same! It took me 9 years to get to the position that I'm in! I treat my direct reports very fairly. They know me very well and I know them very well. I don't know how the Force rank system will play out, but I can tell you that it makes me sick to my stomach. Do not demonize all managers. We are in the same boat as everyone else!!!

Many of the front line managers are looking out for each of their direct reports moreso than themselves. Painting with such a broad brush serves no purpose. There are bad managers and bad employees anywhere you work. But you can’t say each and all fit into a category. As for the salary adjustment, that is redic and will have an effect on all off us. Same as the forced rankings. It’s a tough pill to swallow being ranked “meets” expectations after 25 yrs of work being an over achiever. But you have two choices....deal with it or go find another gig.

What makes you think all managers are happy to go along with these situations? What makes you think they have any influence on the leaders of the company? Managers have families also and cannot just stop doing what they are told to do or otherwise loose their job also. There are good managers and the good managers are just as upset as the people who work for them. Don't blame front line managers for something they can't control. Many of them are looking for new jobs also.

I'm a supervisor. The rigged forced ranking system disgusts me. I have been actively interviewing for other jobs on the outside. as soon as a job offer comes in that makes Financial sense to me, I will be jumping ship and leaving the disgrace of a company that BNYM has become.

Well, speaking as someone versed in ethics and morality who is not a BNY Mellon employee, maybe you ought to read over the terms of the employer-employee agreement you signed, for which I presume you receive large amounts of cash consideration involving contractual duties of loyalty, agency, representation and such before spouting on about what's ethically and morally wrong. People's word used to be their sacred bond, but it doesn't mean much these days.

Well said and yes the yes men need to take responsibility for what is continuing even though they know it’s completely ethically and morally wrong.
