Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Cannibalism

Can you people seriously STFU with the cannibalism babble? What department do you people work in with this type of talk?

I have been with the company for going on 30 years and have friends spread across many departments. Most of the people I have spoken with could care less if they are the next to go. Some pray every night to be put out of their misery.

I am just not seeing this dog eat dog, stab someone in the back, throw someone under the bus work environment that some of you are portraying.

The comprehension skills of you folks is beyond sad. I never said the place wasn't toxic. Of course it is toxic. You have a CEO telling managers to force rank BE to fit a curve.

I simply just don't see the toxicity manifesting into people stabbing each other in the back. Based on my many connections, what you dips are describing are isolated incidents.

Did you see the "wave of layoffs" thread? There was a post from anon-3cwf that was spot on to what I am witnessing and is being told by others.

A group of employees that get along but just don't care about the company anymore.

Probably a post by a legacy-Mellon Pittsburgh employee. Good people from that came from what was a great company.

I suspect those of you that are complaining about the stab people in the back culture are legacy-BNY employees that pay an exorbitant amount for housing and can't afford to lose your job.

Should try living within your means in a place that is actually desirable to live. Not a place that smells like garbage 24/7.

As for the dude worrying about my wrinkles, fear not as I am a true believer in sunblock. I'm good.

Ok, that's it for now. Us non stabbing each other in the back employees are having a party today.

@mrdixonhere I know you are anti BS so firstly, apologies for the nonsense misinformation you have to see on a BNYMELLON layoff site. I feel better that you are not Charlie. Thank you.

Off topic question to lighten moods, take steps back and most importantly to be respectful of the returning from an unplugged BNYMELLON spring break on the beach....

question - Has anyone seen or felt the deeper wrinkles, specifically on your forehead? Let’s be conservative with age and say somewhere in the 40s age range. Those are deep wrinkles.

Wonder what it will take for the “STFU” id--t to come to the realization of the toxicity here. Maybe it’s time for this tool to come to reality with a nearly driven to tears experience. Or maybe on the other side of the table once... yeah that’s the ticket

I recently had a similar near-tearful reaction during a “discussion” with my then new manager. The scenario struck me as one of the most bizarre exchanges I had ever had with a manager during my 38 year career in banking. I excused myself from the meeting because I didn’t want to scream at him. Looking back now, I believe it was orchestrated. I stayed strong, s---ed it up and worked really hard for this new guy. Then I was laid off. I believe mgmt is deliberately treating staff this way as a tactic to get people to quit rather than have to pay them the sub-pay, etc. The company is so beyond awful. I’m glad to be away from it’s toxic environment.

I had to walk away from a manager today who almost had me in tears. Only promoted to manager to make team numbers count.

These faux 'managers' actually seem to purposely try to cause frustration for certain employees and enjoy it. Just all around horrible people. These are bullies that get off on causing drama and now we're seeing their true colors because it's acceptable in our current company environment.

I hope I'm still around when our company changes leadership and integrity counts. These bullies won't be in their management positions for too long after Charlie's gone. We're past due for our spring cleaning.

OP here. Sorry, I was enjoying spring break on the beach and was unplugged from everything BNYMELLON.

No I am not Charlie. No I am not in HR. No I am not in Legal. And I am certainly not Pro Charlie or Pro BNY. Was Pro Mellon until the board hired a Canadian con man that sold a great legacy to a horrible company.

I am anti BS, which is the only thing posted here lately. Same old nonsense. Babble about Charlie's real estate lawsuit that no one really cares about. Tons of misinformation. Tons of bitterness. Tons of stupidity.

Oh, almost forgot. Far from typical retirement age and will never be in a position that includes a golden parachute.

Dixon is about to retire so he's waiting for his package and retirement so he is clueless of what's going on in this company..

Really, do some basic research. Amazingly, in the age of Google, people are somehow less informed than ever before. Banking and Financial Services was indeed the top performing sector throughout the 1990s. Mellon was indeed the top performer in the sector. It literally is in the books.

Yes, Mellon did fight off the ‘98 BONY acquisition attempt. As the CEO pointed out, BONY provided only minimal custodial record keeping and basic transaction processing with ancient technology. Mellon was the leading Master Trust custodian and way ahead of the industry with 11 investment boutiques. The CEO pointed out that BONY did not understand these businesses, which in hindsight proved to be prescient.

Fast forward two CEOs to Bob Kelly, who arrived after leaving a wake of destruction at two prior institutions and immediately began to market Mellon. The rest is history, literally in the books and as close as your nearest library.

If Mellon was such a high flyer, if I recall the events, in 1998 BNY offered $24 billion and then refused. Eight years later in 2006 BNY offered $14 billion and they accepted. Call it a case of 'dumb and dumber'.

The 250 year old legacy created by Alexander Hamilton will just fall into pieces?!??!?

That’s a joke right? BONY fell to pieces 2 decades ago and then bought the 150 year old legacy of Thomas Mellon, the top performing bank in the 90’s through the takeover. Made the mistake of running it their way and managed to drain all value in 13 short years.

Mmmhh. You're one of the old heads. You're probably a little over 2 years until retirement and are just chomping at the bit to get that bonanza of a layoff package and unemployment comp to relax until your retirement kicks in.

All the while you come into the office not doing any work, trying to get yourself that golden parachute, but instead management takes it easy on you and doubles your coworkers project load to compensate for the loss in productivity because they're wise to you and won't be accused of age discrimination.

Well 30 years is a lot of time to analyze BS that is taking place in the organization today or are you saying you are one of those sitting in the fancy chairs on the board watching the empire falling with the Crony Capitalists .We cannot just sit there and watch the fun . The 250 year old legacy created by Alexander Hamilton will just fall into pieces if we are not awakened yet . Time to wake up .

No, not Charlie you dipsh*t.

Also, I did not say it wasn't happening at all, but it sure isn't wide spread like you are suggesting. Ok, let me rephrase. It certainly isn't wide spread in the U.S. Other than the occasional and dreaded tech support, I thankfully have very little dealings with employees in other countries. And honestly, nor do I care if they are eating each other.

In the U.S., most are focused on their planned escape and NOT on how they can save their own neck by cutting the throat of a coworker.

So unless you work in a department of 4 people and you are worried about outing yourself, how about you mention something about your location when you post something like this.
