Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs in US have been completed, intense morning in HQ

Layoffs are done in US. Im not impacted by this wave but ended my day sick and heartbroken today.

There is a guy in my floor, different group, who happened to be leaving 200 building when I was arriving. His wife and kids were waiting for him outside, once he was out they all hug together, he seemed ok but she was suffering for him looks like, they all consolated each other. I assume he knew he was let go and brought the family to feel supported at that difficult moment..

I was let go earlier in 2019 after over 20 yrs. I was p-ss-d, but today, I think my hair is starting to grow back in at it's natural color instead of gray :)

There is definitely a bright side to getting laid off, you don't have to deal with the BS and stress anymore. I used to like my job at Oracle years ago but there was definitely a shift in the wrong direction and I don't know anyone still there that likes working for them. Good riddance

I agree it's awful, but it is not the end of the world. I got hit last year, and I decided to change careers. I spent the last year getting trained and certified and now I'll start looking. I was able to use the severance and unemployment during my training and i have been taking small temp 1099 jobs until I can start working full time.

Once you get passed the shock, it really isn't a bad thing if you don't mind being flexible and enjoy new challenges. I'm over 50 which is why I decided to change fields. Even though I can absorb and apply new technology faster then most and can still out work most everyone, I know my age works against me. So, on to something else. Don't be afraid to try new things and don't turn your nose at those small temp type jobs. Sometimes they lead up to your next big thing. trust me.

I don't miss working for Oracle one bit. I do miss the people I worked with from the Sr Director all the way down to my peers, they were all great people (they were RIF'd too) and the friends I made, but I don't missing working for the three stooges one bit.

Yes , a bunch of us, some very good people got laid off . This is US locations. Company should lay-off upper management / VP levels who earn a ton of money and don’t do much .. too many of them instead they let go US citizens and keep H1s. Please keep looking those still around . I have interviews lined up . Just was hoping I had 3 more months .

Trust me, the world is better outside of Oracle. I got riffed last November, having escaped the PIP after almost 9 years there.

As the saying goes, “Oracle eats their own”. This is just more evidence of the same...

After leaving, I read a whole lot about just how “sniveling” the company is. Regarding putting top sales people on PIP at age 64 1/2 to avoid paying retirement, the 400M lawsuit for favoring the hiring cheap labor from Asia, to discrimination lawsuits because Oracle doesn’t favor women or minorities. On and on... now I realize, Oracle’s always been this way.

Oracle has propping up its stock through buybacks using their cash reserves for quite some time now, instead of growing through healthy market share gains, and they can’t continue using this crutch for much longer.

Lastly, Oracle’s Cloud business is <10% of global market share. Compared to Amazon 35+ Microsoft, 20+ Google 20+ and IBM in the teens. Alibaba is 2. Funny thing, ALL of the above are growing their market share. Except Oracle. I believe their share is shrinking. Its a “sickness”. It’s an existential struggle. Look at it on the bright side, be glad you’re out now.

I agree. This may look like it but it certainly not the end of the world. Most folks will emerge stronger and better off from this. Stay strong.

all this sh-- depresses me and I'm not even one of the people laid off. what's the point of all of this. are we really doing anything that makes us happy or are we just marching along doing what it necessary to live our lives. and live those lives for what reason. to work more at something we hate for a company that makes us miserable. its a sh--ty circle from which there is no escape.

That’s so sad! My thoughts and prayers to all those who were effected. Having gone through the process in the past with different company, I echo with what you and your families will be going through at least until you get a new job. My sincere hope for all those impacted is not to get depressed(I have been there), but use this time to spend more time with your family while developing your skill sets and advance your career. After all we are just humans and don’t treat this small hurdle to grow on you and your loved ones. Please talk to a counselor if you have serious depression. Few hundred bucks is nothing compared to your health and lives! Good luck and god bless!
