Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Benefits Trend Setter

Honeywell continues to be a trendsetter on contemporary, proactive benefits. They were well ahead of this one. Glad to work for a company that is leading the pack vs following.

Yea - Trendsetting companies usually offer high deductible medical insurance plans, no dental, no vision and no pr-scrip-ion d--g plan - truth is that a part time Starbucks employee has better benefits than a full time HW employee - so sad....

There is no work from home policy at Honeywell. New employees come into the company thinking that it's fortune 100 company which should have remote work. Haven't had one work from home day since I've been at Honeywell. Don't dare asking managers you want wfh, they will ask your dozen questions Y you cannot work from home! Lately loosing lot of good people due to this.

Here is a fact that should send any new potential hire running. They ask if we have a Work From Home (WFH) policy and recruiting says yes..... when a company hides the intent by calling something the opposite of what it is is should tell you something about the company culture and principles

It is a "No you cannot WFH" policy. To work just one day at home one time occurrence you need managers approval and must notify HR. And if you want to work even one day at home on a regular basis it take VP of HR approval. That is a must work in the office policy. (MWO)

For me it's actually been great. No more overtime or weekend work. My laptop goes in the trunk of my car at 5pm and stays there until I arrive at the office. And it never come in the house anymore

And since their new "Cellphone Policy" went into effect they took my old iPhone 5c piece of junk away too. Now China and India can wait until the morning for me to answer any email

And 401k match... ha yes we are increasing the match but now if we lay you off you loose your match. And read the fine print for new hires. If they quit early and aren't vested they can loose multiple years of match

Yes a really modern and progressive place to work

I only stay because of the pension which new hires cannot get !!!

The only good thing about Honeywell is it makes me look forward to retirement in 4 years.... or at next RIF.... which if history is any indication, will be this July thru December for at least 6% in USA

I really hope this post was from a troll, and not an actual HON employee trying to brighten the conversation.

I feel as if I’m the battered person in a relationship riddled with domestic violence. I don’t know why, but I continue to make excuses and continue to be manipulated.

For any potential employees, the grass is not greener at Honeywell.

Don’t let the new advertising campaign releasing in June fool you.

Unlimited vacation my a--. You need to have a assigned backup to take vacation and if your backup is taking same days off, you are screwed. People are scared to take vacation with the new unlimited vacation policy. U are preceived as not hard working if you take too many vacations.

It’s NOT unlimited; it’s undefined. There’s a big difference.

Come on people, clearly a sarcastic posting! I retired just before this went into effect and I am sure that it is harder, not easier, to take anything like more than two weeks vacation a year. It used to be possible to accrue weeks of vacation over time and get that money when you retired. Then the policy got changed to the "use it or lose it" in the current year. At least with that, you had some leverage with your manager, or with a decent manager, with his/her boss. Even then, you would get in the Alice of Dilbert situation of working overtime before and after the vacation to get all of the work done.

Trend setter? HW followed suit after GE and other companies realized it drove employees to take less time off overall. Like a cell phone plan "unlimited" always has fine print. Make sure read the policy before you join any company. Tangible numbers and goals are safer for the employee and expectations are known to both parties. When you are given "unlimited vacation" and simultaneously being graded on 8 behaviors that are subjective fluff goals, watch out.

It was done to eliminate the vacation accrual to make the numbers during a challenging quarter.

I am waiting for HR to get to me on my request on work accommodation (exemption from sustained OT) based on medical. He said he has to flow it to higher up, and get my boss to approve, And if need be, get an Internal Honeywell Doc to signoff. That part gets me, I had my doctor sign-off. Their doctor does not know me. LOL.

Not sure what planet the original poster is from or what they're smoking. Over the past 10 years the company has NOT implemented or done anything that does not benefit them is some way. ZERO, NADA, NOTHING has been done that is a perk to any employee yet every takeaway is given some spin or has a major (Fictional) production done to promote it. Its all smoke and mirrors. Poster must be one of the gullible ones.

I find it harder now to take vacation, mostly due to work load. With all the leaning out Hon has been doing, mostly older folks, too much work than can get done. Work will pile up and really no one will help too much because they are being measured closely and also have a lot on their plates. So you come back and the boss starts pushing again. Like as soon as you walk in they already forgot you were on vacation. What's up with this? Why isn't this done? Who did you get to help? I have been told it is my responsibility to have a back up and train the person. Not working too well. Just gotta let it roll off.

It means when you get laid off you get no unused vacation pay. I was laid off 3 1/2 years ago at 55. I got a nice check for the unused vacation. I had just reached 5 weeks of vacation. That's all Hon cared about because there are a lot of senior, experienced older folks getting laid off in recent history for various reasons.

Honeywell, a benefits trend setter? What have you been smoking? The so called “unlimited vacation” policy just gets more of the liabilities off of the books so they look better for the big shots and their bonuses. If you think that you can take a bunch of vacation and not have it adversely affect you, you are just fooling yourself!

Been here 30+ years, I know better!

It is unlimited but subject to manager approval and getting your work done. If your performance suffers it will impact your reviews. The longer you are on vacation the more work awaits your return unless you work during vacation. It’s no free lunch
